You will have to pay to publish the contract. Ropsten ETH isn’t real ETH though. If you don’t have Ropsten ETH look up the Ropsten faucet to

You don't need Ethereum Wallet or Geth. Just MetaMask, then use the online solidity browser as I talked about in the tutorial.
