This week, I’m recommending a K-drama; in case you missed this story when it first came out—just as I did—and it appeals to you, here are my thoughts on it.

# What’s the plot about?…

---

The story follows Yoo Me-ri, a talented woman who is technically married—though she has yet to hold the actual ceremony. Her life falls apart, however, when her fiancé cheats on her just before the wedding; to make matters worse, she falls victim to a scam that leaves her destitute and penniless. Just as she hits rock bottom, fate throws her an unexpected lifeline: she wins a contest with a grand prize of Beauté Palace—a spectacular luxury residence worth billions of won—giving her the chance to sell the property and not only recoup her losses but also live a comfortable life.

---

However, because the contest is rigged, there is a condition: she must be legally married and attend official appearances with her husband—a man she is technically still married to, even though they are estranged, since she hasn't yet filed the divorce papers. Then, by a twist of fate, she runs into a man who shares her ex's name and proposes a deal: he will pose as her husband. After reluctantly agreeing to fake a perfect marriage for 90 days, the two must move in together and convince a suspicious investigator—who is keeping a close watch on them—of their union. Yet, as the charade continues and living under the same roof sparks an inevitable attraction, the fine line between acting and genuine desire begins to blur. If maintaining such a massive lie in the public eye is already risky, what happens when their staged glances and contractual caresses start to feel painfully real to both of them?

# Personal opinion

---

As for the premise, it is nothing new—a classic trope in K-dramas—but this production manages to refresh it by incorporating elements of realistic urgency. The plot relies not only on romantic entanglements but also on social pressure, current economic dilemmas, and the housing crisis facing urban youth—a struggle many of us can relate to, given how prohibitively expensive home ownership has become. Ultimately, the twist of having two characters with the same name (the unfaithful ex and the methodical hero) adds a constant layer of comic mix-ups and tension that keeps the story moving.

---

While I must admit that it hooked me right from the start, I feel that by the time it reached the conclusion, it had lost some of the spark it possessed in the early episodes; I finished it mainly because I wanted to see how it ended. That said, it wasn't exactly a bad show, but it was missing something—though, of course, that’s a matter of taste. As for the performances, I really felt a strong chemistry between the leads. Choi Woo-shik brings his signature expressive and comedic style, blending vulnerability with the methodical, reserved demeanor of an heir trapped in a charade—I absolutely loved his facial expressions. I had seen Jung So-min in other projects, such as *Alchemy of Souls*, and I have to admit she excels in the roles she takes on; here, she demonstrates her aptitude for the romance genre, projecting resilience, natural charm, and a very organic emotional expressiveness.

# Positive points…

---

- Stellar chemistry: Choi Woo-shik and Jung So-min deliver a fresh, fluid dynamic with excellent comedic timing. - Snappy pacing: With only 12 episodes, the story wastes no time on filler or tedious subplots. - Effective humor: It maintains a consistently fun tone, driven by the complications of a fake marriage and forced cohabitation. - Natural progression: The romance feels earned; the shift from initial friction to closeness unfolds very organically.

# Negative points…

---

- Overused trope: The contract marriage premise is a common cliché within the genre. - Flat villains or antagonists: External threats (such as inspectors or family members) sometimes come across as predictable. - Hasty resolution: The wrapping up of certain subplots in the final stretch feels somewhat rushed.

# ¿De qué va la trama?…

---
