To a monster, the normal must seem monstrous, and this one appeared in the body of a woman. ![](https://images.hive.blog/DQmNraebeBrM6ymoJB2QwU4ZhANhAhU1MxkHQUrS4ndWySf/IMG_20261006_010112_630%20-%201.jpg) [_Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/258165-east-of-eden/images/backdrops) _{Edited in Photoshop & Canva App} https://images.hive.blog/0x0/https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/jcrodriguez/245cUBXzvWF8QVukk8UvqTFX6FutvCzv1TyGDA8ybnR5QKA1v6nMvGS4j6y81Qg9M2HLn.jpg

When I saw the trailer before the miniseries premiered, I felt excited but also somewhat apprehensive; I prayed they wouldn't ruin an excellent work with a mediocre adaptation. Fortunately, my fears vanished completely as soon as I started watching the first episode. I didn't binge-watch it—it took me several days to finish the whole thing—and I think I enjoyed it more that way. This work already had two excellent adaptations. If you enjoy watching masterful classics, I recommend the 1955 film—the one that launched James Dean to stardom. Incidentally, that movie was directed by the great Elia Kazan, and it is his granddaughter, Zoe, who handled this new miniseries adaptation; she truly covers the entire story from the very beginning. That is one of the main differences between the film and this adaptation: the movie focused more on just one part of the original novel. There is also a miniseries from the 1980s that is worth watching if you like exploring older productions. I remember seeing it on TV when I was very young, though my memories are a bit hazy; I hated the commercial breaks. I also saw the movie years ago, but on a VHS tape I rented back then. If you want to see great classic cinema, you should check out Elia Kazan's films. He was an excellent director whose career was tarnished because, in his personal life, he chose to inform on colleagues during the infamous Hollywood "witch hunt." That persecution caused a lot of damage, but I prefer to focus on appreciating his work as a filmmaker. The miniseries had all the ingredients for success, and that is exactly what it achieved. John Steinbeck's novel is a classic that simply must be read at some point. *East of Eden* introduces us to a character who embodies evil in all its magnitude. The most important character in this story is Cathy Ames: a true monster, a despicable being who presented herself in the guise of a beautiful woman. To me, she is a full-blown psychopath. She feels no love for anyone—not for her parents, not for any man, not for her children. For nothing. Anyone familiar with the original work knows the author drew inspiration from the story of Cain and Abel; in fact, the miniseries itself references it. It is a complex work, and I believe this new adaptation rises to the occasion. I loved it, and it has already made my list of the year's best. The miniseries format allows for a deep exploration of the story, as it addresses not only the inherent evil in certain human beings—those who are true monsters—but also sibling rivalry and the complex mix of love and hate that can arise between them. It delves into the poor choices made by parents who, whether they admit it or not, inevitably have a favorite child. No matter how much people say, "I love all my children equally," it is a lie. There is always—*always*—one child who receives more attention, more affection, and more favoritism. Don't try to argue with me in the comments; that’s just how it is. Adam and Charles Trask were already having problems because their father preferred one over the other. And it is precisely these events that shape the future of the family's subsequent generations. Of course, the arrival of Cathy Ames—a she-devil with a beautiful face—deals the final blow to the family's destiny at the turn of the century. The story begins in the late 19th century and spans the early years of World War I. The plot successfully holds the viewer's interest, and every scene featuring Florence Pugh—who plays Cathy—is magnificent. She embodies a despicable character whom, nevertheless, we cannot stop watching on screen. Incidentally, the series contains a fair amount of explicit content, so it is not suitable for young children; the themes are clearly adult-oriented. Christopher Abbott also stands out in the role of Adam. Despite having gone to war, he turns out to be the weakest of them all. He allows himself to be completely blinded by Cathy, ignoring Charles’s warnings that she will ultimately destroy him. Guilt eats away at him—not only the hatred he once felt for his brother but also remorse over his poor decisions and the fact that he has ended up just like his father. This guilt is also passed on to Caleb, the scorned son who yearns for recognition and feels he resembles his mother, carrying that seed of evil within him. After all, we pass on both our virtues and our flaws to our offspring. Caleb and Aron turn out to be as different from one another as Adam and Charles were. I give this miniseries the thumbs up; I recommend it. You have to watch it; it's on Netflix. As I said before, there's a lot of junk on there, but every now and then they release something worth watching. I hope you like it when you watch it, and let me know what you think in the comments.
