Madison: A New Life… and the Infinite Paths of Family

Dear #holos-lotus family, I am so, so happy! There is truly no better #community in which to share such joy. I’ve become a great-uncle! I’m overjoyed! Today, it’s hard to even measure the extent of my happiness. Some news makes us laugh and cry at the same time—tears of pure, joyful emotion. My niece Tali has just become a mother. Madison has arrived—a little girl welcomed into this world by an entire family that was already waiting for her, loving her, even before meeting her. As for me, I’m already dreaming of the adventures she and I will share one day. To me, Tali is more than just a niece; she is my companion on so many journeys and adventures. We’ve shared countless moments that remain etched in my memory—moments that, as the years go by, I find myself recounting, much like pulling a cherished, well-worn object from the bottom of a backpack—an object heavy with stories, memories, and emotions. Knowing that she is now embarking on one of the most significant journeys of her life moves me in a profound way. Wow! **My adventure companion has become a mother.** **.**

. And I—having walked alongside her so many times across the world—now imagine her traversing new paths with Madison; paths quite different from those we once explored together, yet surely just as intense, delightful, and full of laughter. Some time ago, Tali moved to Brazil with my brother. She made the long journey—from Cuba to Guyana, and finally to Brazil—carrying the newest member of our _famiglia_ within her own womb, unseen by the outside world. Now, in this Brazilian land—amidst new landscapes, customs, and horizons—Madison has come into the light, beginning her very first journey in the arms of those closest to her. A tiny life that brings us all together, even those of us who are far away (for I consider myself close, despite the physical distance). ...and it reminds us that a family doesn’t need to share the same roof, or even live in the same city, to remain a family.

Madison—we almost share a birthday

There’s a coincidence that makes me smile even more: Madison and I were born almost on the same day. I like to think of it as a little wink from God—a “coincidence” that, one day, we’ll be able to tell her about. Perhaps, when she’s older, she’ll find it just as delightful as I do now. I certainly hope so.

Freedom of personality

Having learned to enjoy adventures without always knowing the destination—embracing the greatest possible freedom—I want to wish that same right for her, starting now: the right to grow up without others pre-drawing the map of her existence. May those of us who claim to love one another truly do so. May she find her own path—mistakes, questions, and all—and learn to distinguish between what she genuinely desires and what others expect of her. .

.

Guard his heart

If I could dare to ask something from mommy and daddy, for Madison, in addition to health, I would ask that they take care of her with love, with wisdom and with the deep sensitivity that characterizes human beings. Of course you have to protect it, feed it... But, I consider that there are much more important values than those, of which to pay attention. Sometimes, adults want to avoid all setbacks, as if a perfect childhood could be built by eliminating any possibility of error... And, without realizing it, we can end up taking great care of the body while leaving the spirit for later. On the other hand, there are those who overprotect, those who pamper excessively, those who create a false love for their children until they become imbeciles, mediocre people who believe they are the navel of the world. And then, instead of having educated a human being for society, he only produced a ruthless and selfish monster. I dream that Madison grows up in an environment where she can ask questions without fear, express her emotions without shame, and express what she thinks without feeling like she will stop being loved for having a different opinion. But much further, I would like him to grow with the sensitivity necessary to recognize the pain of others; and with the ability to lend a hand when someone needs it.

Love without possessing

From my Christian faith, Madison's arrival makes me think about the gift of life. In that beautiful responsibility that we have when it is our responsibility to accompany someone who is just beginning to walk through the world. Every girl and boy deserves to be received with love, dignity and hope. And for those of us who believe in God, a new life can also become an invitation to be grateful for this great blessing that children are. To care and ask ourselves what kind of people we want to be for those around us; although for me – perhaps only for me – it costs me so much work.

The family grows

As we always say, time flies. Children grow, the elderly age, families transform. And best of all, new members appear and paths are opened that we did not even imagine before. Tali, Ayán, prepare for what is coming. He he. Sometimes I wonder how many family stories are being written right now in places where we are not. How many conversations… **Today, one of those stories has its own name: Madison.** **.**

. My niece Tali, that travel and adventure companion, begins a stage that will surely teach her things that no previous trip could teach her. Motherhood will open before her an unknown territory, full of tenderness and also fatigue, questions, uncertainties, learning, fears. Now it's my turn to discover what it means to be Madison's great uncle. I don't know how many adventures we will share, or what places will become part of our story; Not even when we can hug each other, since a great geographical distance separates us. But I do know that it makes me happy to imagine her growing up, getting to know the world and building her own way of inhabiting it. And if one day you read these lines, I want you to know that you were already loved before we could share a conversation. God bless you! With all the love, Great-uncle [Lucio the Traveler](https://instagram.com/lucioviajero).
