Greetings, dear feathered friends. This week I’m back to participate in [Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 293](https://hive.blog/hive-106444/@nelinoeva/feathered-friends-show-me-a-debec7a70afee). I took the photos while I was on a work trip; we were in an area near the beach called El Peñón, in Cumaná, Sucre State, Venezuela, so I had the opportunity to capture a seabird with some very distinctive features.

_

Several birds were flying; I didn’t know if they were vultures, so I started snapping pictures with my phone. One of them caught my attention, and that turned out to be the best photo—the first one, the one I chose for the contest. When I showed the photo to my boss, he told me, “That’s a frigatebird.” It’s a seabird that spends most of its time flying; they even sleep while flying. Their legs are so short that it’s hard for them to walk on land or in water. They only splash around a little because their wings aren’t waterproof, and if they get soaked, they risk drowning because they won’t be able to fly. For that very reason, they don’t hunt; they steal food from other birds.

The sky was a deep blue, but with a faint pink hue—even though I took the photo at 9:50 a.m., which really surprised me. I told a friend, “It looks like a portal to another dimension.” I captured the frigatebird gliding, along with other birds.

Saludos estimados amigos emplumados.
