Seraph of the end — An anime I’d share

If I had a partner, this would definitely be the first anime we would see together. If I had a partner. Owari no Seraphena which is short for Seraph of the end is a vampire anime. Honestly, I think I mixed something. I would be confuse on which anime to see with my partner but this one would probably be part of the top three, as it was one of my favourite animes back in the days. With just two seasons with about twelve – twenty four episodes each, it easily captured my heart.

Seraph of the end is definitely up there in my top five vampire animes. Here’s the thing about this anime - it starts heavy. A virus wipes out most of humanity, and the only ones who survive are kids under thirteen. But here’s the kicker - vampires show up and basically take over, treating the surviving kids like cattle for blood. Dark, right?

The main character is this kid named Yuichiro, and he’s living in this underground vampire city with his makeshift family - because everyone’s real family is dead. He’s got this fierce, stubborn personality and he’s not okay with the whole “living as vampire livestock” situation. Things go really badly when he tries to escape with his family, and without spoiling it, let’s just say it doesn’t go the way he hoped. It’s one of those moments that stays with you, honestly. I actually cried.

Fast forward a bit, and Yu ends up joining the Japanese Imperial Demon Army - basically humans fighting back against the vampires with these special demon weapons. The action scenes are really well done, and there’s this whole supernatural element with the weapons having their own personalities and conditions for use. You can’t just pick one up and start swinging. There’s a whole process, and it’s dangerous.

What really captured my heart though was the relationship between Yu and his best friend Mikaela. Their story is complicated in ways that hurt to watch sometimes. Mika was part of that original family, part of that escape attempt, and what happens to him… it changes everything. The way their paths diverge and then cross again, it drives so much of the emotional weight in the series. You’re watching these two people who care about each other desperately, but they’re on completely different sides now. It’s not simple. It’s messy and painful and real in a way that a lot of anime relationships aren’t.

The vampire lore itself is interesting too. These aren’t your sparkly romantic vampires - they’re powerful, they’re organized, and they have their own complex society with nobles and ranks.

And then there’s the whole mystery element. As the series goes on, you realize there’s so much more happening beneath the surface. The demon weapons, the vampire origins, what really caused the virus, the organizations pulling strings - it all connects in ways you don’t see coming. The show drops these hints and questions that make you need to keep watching.

Yu’s squad mates in the demon army become important too. They’re not just side characters - they have their own trauma, their own reasons for fighting, their own demon weapons with dark histories. Watching them become a real team, a real family for Yu when he’s lost so much, that’s part of what makes the show work.

The art style is gorgeous too, especially during the fight scenes. The animation holds up really well, and the soundtrack… the opening themes alone give you chills. They set the tone perfectly for what you’re about to watch.

I think what made this one of my top vampire animes is that it doesn’t hold back. It commits to the darkness of its premise but balances it with these genuine moments of connection and hope. It’s brutal when it needs to be, emotional when it counts, and it never feels like it’s just going through the motions. Every episode feels like it matters.

With just those two seasons, it tells enough story to be satisfying while leaving you wanting more. And yeah, the manga continues past where the anime ends — which tears also dropped from my eyes about. I wanted more animation on it, and sadly it’s been more than three years. No news, no information.

Genuinely hope my “partner” feels the same way i do regarding the no next season yet, so I don’t sulk all by myself;)

Thanks for reading;)

I watched this anime a long time ago and haven't seen anything related to it since. It's interesting that it's not as popular as many other current dark fantasy and action anime. And it's not like it had a bad premise or story, quite the opposite, as I recall. The animation is also excellent; I don't remember exactly which studio was in charge of the adaptation, but it seems to have been a talented one. The characters... unforgettable... Especially the protagonist and one or two waifus that I remember and sometimes see in clips or edits on TikTok. A true gem, quite underrated, of anime.

Good recommendation.

Oh yes, the characters were quite forgettable. I barely remember some things in the anime but the characters were never part of the things I forgot. It was/ is such a good and underrated anime. Sigh.

It's a shame they didn't continue the animation, but I understand that it's because the manga isn't selling well in Japan, or at least that's what I read somewhere 💔 Even so, I loved it from the very beginning and would love for them to continue the animation (although I think it's unlikely) 😢

It's entertaining and balances the different moments very well!

Oh yes, I was saddened too when I realized what year the previous season came out. A little secret but I cried about it.😔😂
Cause I really wanted to see it, but that was when I was younger though. I am tough now.
