Orchid Greenhouse
On Valentine's day we took a trip to an enormous orchid greenhouse.

The whole facility is at least a few acres worth of greenhouses. Many of the greenhouses were not in bloom yet.

But they did have quite a range of bloomed ones.

Here is one that is almost a skin color.

My wife almost bought these white ones with a faint pink towards the center.

Here is a valentine's mix of three types of orchids. Hopefully they actually pair well together.

Here is a strange pointy type of orchid.

This is a common looking one I see in most stores.

This one is a strange orange brown color almost like the skin color one before.

Here is a wild looking one. Definitely something you would see in a dangerous jungle.

Here is one with the colors of my alma matter. Also this type actually has fragrance unlike many orchid species.
That's all for now, more soon.
Gorgeous shots 👍 I've never had luck with orchids but I was excited to find a type of wild orchid (lady slipper) around Vermont last summer.
Were they yellow? Supposedly there are some yellow wild lady slipper orchids here that are really tiny, so far haven't found any probably very unassuming looking stuffed in the middle of a prairie somewhere.
https://ecency.com/hive-194913/@steven-patrick/yellow-lady-slipper-orchids I've found yellow and pink ones. Don't think I've found white ones. These like cool, moist areas with dappled sunlight. I know a few places now thanks to some old-timers sharing their secret spots.
Yeah this is the same species that theoretically grows in Illinois. There is also a white and yellow lady slipper here too. I'll have to do some research on where they grow, with the cool moist requirements I bet morels are growing nearby.
If I had the money! I would build myself a greenhouse. Greenhouses give so much energy!
It is a wonderful environment to escape into during the winter. That's also when they tend to bloom.
Love seeing orchids. I'm going to a local orchid show firstly on Saturday. It will be a delight of scent and sight! But a whole lot of greenhouses beats that for sure!
Hopefully they have lots of the scented ones at the show. Our chocolate orchid is nice and hearty. I always think someone spilled a chocolate vanilla drink somwhere when its fully bloomed.
There’s LOTS of scented ones which is why I like to get there right when it opens, before lots of people arrive as disperse it.
