DIY Infinite Cross Carved in Wood [ENG-ESP]

Hello dear friends, I hope you are all doing well in this beautiful community. It's been several months since I last posted anything related to wood carving, and taking advantage of these holidays, I've created a piece to commemorate Holy Week. I'm far from what you might consider a religious person, but I do see myself as a reflective person, and everything I read always holds a lesson for me. This is how I analyze the events in the life of Jesus of Galilee. I believe his words still resonate through time, teaching us the value of loving our neighbor, something so lacking in this world. Holy Week commemorates the events that led to his death, and I use these days to reflect. That's why I've made a cross, a symbol of Christianity. This wooden cross is shaped like an intertwined knot. If you look closely, you'll see that it resembles a highway running within itself. I like it as a symbol of the Kingdom of God that dwells within each person in this world. I hope you like it.

Hola queridos amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien en esta hermosa comunidad, tenía varios meses sin publicar algo referente a madera tallada, y aprovechando estos días de vacaciones pues he realizado un motivo para resaltar la Semana Santa. Estoy muy lejos de lo que se puede considerar de una persona religiosa, pero si me considero como una persona reflexiva y todo lo escrito para mi siempre tiene una enseñanza. Es así como analizo los hechos acaecidos en la vida de Jesús el Galileo, creo que sus palabras aun resuenan en el tiempo, enseñándonos el valor del amor al prójimo que tanto hace falta en este mundo. En Semana Santa se conmemoran los eventos que llevaron a su muerte y aprovecho esos días para pensar. Es por eso que he realizado una cruz, símbolo del cristianismo, esta cruz tallada en madera tiene la forma de un nudo entrelazado, si te acerca podrás ver que parece una autopista que circula dentro de sí misma, me gusta como símbolo del reino de Dios que habita en cada persona de este mundo. Espero que les guste.

From my old pieces of wood, I took one that was 3 centimeters on each side; I almost always make the pieces this size. Then I started cleaning both sides of the wood to choose the best place to draw the shape of the cross I was going to carve. With a pencil, I carefully traced the shape, trying to use as much of the wood as possible.

De mis antiguos pedazos de madera, tomé uno que tiene 3 centímetros por cada uno de los lados, casi siempre las piezas las hago de esta medida. Luego me puse a limpiar ambas caras de la madera para elegir el mejor lugar donde dibujar la figura de la cruz que voy a talla, con un lápiz voy haciendo cuidadosamente la forma tratando de ocupar la mayor parte de la madera.

After drawing the cross, I used one of the gouges with the finest, sharpest point. To begin, I had to make the smallest holes in the center and then shape it by working out the edges. In this process, it's important to start in the center of the wood because it loses density when cutting larger areas, and doing so risks damaging the entire piece.

Luego de hacer el dibujo de la cruz, utilicé una de las gubias con la punta más fina y afilada, para comenzar debo abrir los agujeros más pequeños en el centro y así darle forma luego por los bordes. En este proceso es importante tomar la iniciativa en el centro de la madera, porque esta pierde densidad al cortar las partes más grandes, y al hacerlo así se corre el riesgo de dañar toda la pieza.

Next, I begin cutting the edges to shape each of the arms of the cross. As I mentioned before, the holes in the center had already been made, so there is no risk of the wood breaking when doing this step.

Seguidemente comienzo a cortar los bordes para darle forma a cada uno de los brazos de la cruz, como había mencionado anteriormente, ya los agujeros del centro habían sido realizados, así no corre el riegso de que la madera se rompa al hacer este paso.

Little by little, I'm carving the wood along each edge. First, I make horizontal cuts to remove the wood, and once there's only a little left, I switch to a vertical cut for the final one. This way, you can see how each of the shapes I drew gradually appears.

Poco a poco voy tallando la madera de cada uno de los bordes, en primer lugar hago cortes horizontales para extraer la madera y una vez quedé poca cambio a un corte vertical para hacer el último corte. Así pueden ver como poco a poco van apareciendo cada uno de los rbazos que había dibujado.

Once I've cut along all the edges to create the cross shape, I then create the relief in the center of the cross, so it looks like one part is on top of the other, giving it that knotted appearance. To do this, I use the smallest blades because the space is very limited. Afterward, I sand the entire piece, including the inside of each hole, and finally, I add a glossy varnish to give the piece a more beautiful finish. And that's how it's finished.

Una vez he realizado el corte por todos los bordes hasta darle la forma de cruz lo que hago entonces es hacer el relieve en el centro de la cruz, para que se vea como una parte está encima de la otra, dandole esa apariencia de nudo. Para hacer este paos utilizo las cuchillas con las puntas más pequeñas ya que el espacio es muy reducido, después voy lijando toda la pieza incluyendo al interior de cada orificio y por último agrego el barniz brillante para darle un acabado más hermoso a la pieza y así ha quedado finalizado.

It has been said for millennia that the symbol of the cross unites both worlds, the spiritual and the earthly, as it is formed by a vertical line representing our relationship with God, and a horizontal line representing our relationship with others, that is, our neighbor. Se dice desde hace milenios, que el símbolo de la cruz une ambos mundos, el espiritual con el terrenal, al estar formado por una línea vertical que significa nuestra relación con Dios, y una línea horizontal que significa nuestra relación con las demás personas, es decir nuestro prójimo. Así que con esto en mente comparto esta creación que espero disfruten, practiquemos el amor y la tolerancia y tendremos un mundo diferente y mejor. Me despido hasta pronto!
