Hello, dear friends at @Motherhood. I’m stopping by to tell you about an emotional week I had with my son, who, as I’ve mentioned before, just started first grade. Well, his school decided to do something simple in light of the situation our country faced with the earthquake, without letting this moment—which is so important to them as they complete their first stage and soon begin another, with new responsibilities and challenges—pass them by.

First, we attended Mass—it was a bit short so the kids could sit still for that long. It was nice because everyone showed respect and shared their hopes for this new school year. My cousins were able to join us from my family, which was really touching for my son because he loves his cousin so much, haha, so having them with us at that moment brought us a lot of joy. Everyone brought some family members; others, since it was a weekday, only had their parents come, but the important thing was not to miss it so they could receive God’s blessing and understand that the new stage ahead of them is different but full of excitement.

After that, we had a simple ceremony—no music, just a simple decoration to mark the occasion. My son’s cap was made by his aunt; we thought he wouldn’t want to wear it, but in the end, he kept it on throughout the entire ceremony without a single complaint, haha. The same went for his gown and everything else. Although during the ceremony some of the children were restless because the power had gone out and it was hot, they were able to sit through every part of the program, including the presentation of diplomas and medals, as well as the presentation of gifts to the godmothers and their teacher to thank her for her support over the years she spent with them—since she taught them for two consecutive years so she could see them off from preschool, and she’ll be the one guiding them through their final year.

Some cried with nostalgia as they said goodbye to their school, and I, too, found myself getting nostalgic, thinking how much my mom would have loved to see it, but because of her illness, I had to leave her at home; my sister was the one who was able to come with me. They also enjoyed receiving gifts from their graduation mentors, their teacher, and the school administration—everyone was happy about every little gift they received, especially since there were lots of sweets there, hehe. It really was a happy day, full of mixed emotions, since I feel like my little boy is growing up so fast—or maybe time is just really flying by. Every day is a learning experience, and thank God we’ve successfully completed this first stage. Thank God we’re continuing to move forward, and that fills me with so much joy. I hope to keep going this way and keep learning alongside him.

Congratulations to your son on moving up a grade! Well, in my day, this wasn't done. I don't remember exactly when they started having ceremonies for everything: when they moved from preschool to elementary school, when they entered the first year of high school, etc. Haha, in my day I remember that the only celebration with a ceremony was high school graduation. But I understand that it's very exciting for children and it's a nice thing, although, of course, each family's economic situation plays a role.
jeje muchas gracias, si eso es verdad hacer tanto es difícil por la economía de hoy en día, bueno en mi momento recuerdo que fue un cotillón y listo pasaste de nivel jeje
Hehe, thanks a lot. Yeah, it's true—doing all that is hard given today's economy. Back in my day, I remember it was just a party favor and that was it—you moved up to the next level, hehe.
Que hermoso y contento se ve tu niño, Felicidades en esta próxima etapa...!
muchas gracias amiga, amén!
