WorldMapPin - Transparency & Strategy Report 2026

Two years have passed since we founded Worldmappin - one year since we released the proposal 2.0 - bringing Worldmappin to the next level.
Thanks to all of our supporters for your trust and support over that time! Because of you, most of it has been funded, so we are happy to tell you that despite the fact that we haven't been funded all the way through (even now), we are almost back on track with our roadmap for many things.
Even more thanks to all the users who made Worldmappin the Top 1 community on Hive with beautiful "18310 subscribers • 205 posters • 1292 posts" (see https://hive.blog/communities). We love your engagement and this drives us to do our work for this project.
For us, it is obvious that in return, you want to know what happened at that time and were the money was spent. - Also, as many of you know Hive is having a bad time right now - so we were also thinking of how to give back and lower costs to help all of us moving forward.
As always, we give you some transparency and updates on all of that - First of all, you get the financial report here. Next up will be our project update with all the content details regarding the roadmap:)

🌍 General Project Overview
WorldMapPin (formerly Pinmapple, rebranded June 2024) is a decentralized travel community and interactive world map built on the Hive blockchain. Every geotagged post published on any Hive frontend – PeakD, Ecency and others – automatically appears as a verified pin on worldmappin.com. Same goes for post from communities like Foodies Bee Hive with 18000+ Members and SpendHBD Stores or Distriator,
Three core services in operation:
① Interactive World Map – Coordinates are parsed automatically from Hive post metadata and projected onto the global map in real time. Platform-agnostic: any Hive frontend is supported.
② Quality Auditing & Travel Digest – The curation team performs daily manual review of all incoming pins, filtering plagiarism, AI-generated spam, and location manipulation. The best contributions are featured in the daily Travel Digest.
③ Delegation Reward Program – Users delegate Hive Power to @worldmappin. The vast majority of earned curation rewards are distributed back to delegators automatically as passive yield.
📊 DHF Proposal #348 – Financial Report
Summary
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| DHF proposal period | Jun 21, 2025 – May 6, 2026 |
| Maximum approved | 195 HBD / day (~63,375 HBD total) |
| Actually received | 44,321.93 HBD |
| Unfunded DHF Amount | 19,053.93 HBD |
| Effective funding rate | 69.9 % |
| Operational expenditures | 41,500 HBD |
| Retained liquidity reserve | 2,822 HBD |
| Marketing share | 9.4 % (3,909 HBD) |
| Zero-funding months | 1 (March 2026) |
Monthly Funding Breakdown

Green bars = HBD received | Grey area = shortfall vs. 195 HBD/day maximum
Overview
Total HBD Received 44,322 HBD in 5,455 Pays means Worldmappin got 69.9 % funded
An amount of 19,053 HBD was not send to us (unfunded) during the time the proposal was not funded!
Context: Due to the DHF threshold mechanism (return proposal competition), funding was volatile throughout the period. March 2026 was a complete zero-funding month. The retained reserve of 2,822 HBD was specifically held to cover fixed infrastructure costs during such gaps – not as surplus.
Operational Expenditure Structure

Monthly breakdown by category: Development, Server & Infra, Curation + CM, Event/HiveFest, Marketing, Travel Digest, WMP Challenge, Community Mgmt
| Category | Type | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Development | Variable (dominant) | V2 build, testing, deployment; @asgarth, @masterswatch, @abinsaji4, @hariprasadd |
| Server & Infrastructure | Fixed monthly | Hosting, database operations, mapping services, all operational costs – consolidated single line item ; @wmp-service |
| Curation + CM | Variable | Daily pin auditing, Travel Digest, anti-spam, quality check, user retention, assistance for onboarding; @ybanezkim26, @lauramica, @glecerioberto, @gabrielatravels, @lizanomadsoul, @ninaeatshere |
| Event / HiveFest | One-time (Sep–Oct 2025) | Sponsoring, speaker slots, travel → see Marketing section |
| Marketing | One-time (Aug 2025) | Merchandise production → see Marketing section |
| WMP Challenge | Project-based | Community challenge reward pool |
Marketing & Event Expenditures
Total: 3,909 HBD (9.4% of all expenditures) — invested exclusively during strong funding phases (August–October 2025).
| Item | Period | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Merchandise production | August 2025 | Premium branded clothing, event banners, flyers for event representation |
| HiveFest (worldwide) | September 2025 | Sponsoring, branded clothing, speaker slot, live mapping challenge |
| European blockchain meetups | Graz Hive Event, Conf3rence, Hive Summit 2025 | Regional representation, networking, user acquisition |
| European blockchain meetups | May 2026 | Regional representation Hive Alicante Event, networking, merch |
The investment in physical event representation is a proven vector for delegation growth and proposal vote stabilization within the Hive ecosystem. Production was deliberately timed to high-funding months to avoid fixed cost exposure during uncertain periods.
Funding management
There is a new tool from one of our project member @louis88 to monitor the funding of a project. The Hive Proposal Explorer creates some transparancy at https://hive-proposals.vercel.app - see some data from 31.th March 2026

See the https://hive-proposals.vercel.app/proposals/348 report for the last 30 days.

As you see, we have short before getting funded again.

🛡️ Crisis Management
When DHF funding dropped below operational minimums, the project leadership implemented the following concrete measures – without any interruption to public platform operation:
① Deferral of management compensation
In low/zero-funding months, project leadership preserve priority spending on infrastructure. The payment hierarchy was: servers first → mapping services → curation → development → marketing
② Caching optimization to reduce mapping costs
A multi-tier server-side tile cache was implemented as part of V2, significantly reducing API call volume and converting a usage-based cost into a more predictable fixed-cost structure. This directly increased the effective coverage window of the liquidity reserve.
③ Strategic use of the liquidity reserve
The 2,822 HBD reserve was purpose-built for exactly the scenario that occurred in March 2026 (100% funding gap). The reserve covered all infrastructure costs for the zero month without requiring emergency measures.
⚙️ Budget Optimization Model
Due the good Crisis Management and due the strong commitment from the Development team - to work on the goals of the roadmap with even less funds - the release of the next features we will within the estimated timeframe.

The cost structure is being streamlined for improved resilience:
| Reduction | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|
| Development | −650 HBD | −7,800 HBD |
| Curation (ML tools assist) | −190 HBD | −2,280 HBD |
| Total freed | −840 HBD/month | −10,080 HBD |
Effect: +2,520 HBD buffer per quarter — equivalent to approximately 1.5 months of operational runway at the streamlined cost level (~1,733 HBD/month). Compared to the single zero-funding month observed in March 2026 — which the project absorbed without any buffer at all — the recovery capacity is now structurally strengthened.
Budget Optimization: Cost Structure Before & After
With the completion of the core V2 development phase, the monthly cost structure is being streamlined. The reductions target exclusively the two variable cost lines that directly benefit from V2 stabilization and planned ML tooling — all fixed infrastructure costs remain fully intact.
| Cost Block | Before (HBD/month) | After (HBD/month) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Development | 1,168 | 518 | −650 |
| Hosting / Infrastructure | 850 | 850 | — |
| Curation + CM | 475 | 285 | −190 |
| Community Management | 80 | 80 | — |
| Total (verified lines) | 2,573 | 1,733 | −840 |
Baseline derived from the 10-month average August 2025 – May 2026 — the full operational period after the V2 build phase started.
Development (−650 HBD): The intensive build cycle for V2 — including architecture, testing, and deployment — is complete. V2.2 and subsequent versions follow a modular, incremental development rhythm at significantly lower monthly cost. The reduction roughly halves the V2-phase Development line (1,168 → 518).
Curation + CM (−190 HBD): The planned implementation of new technology is projected to reduce manual screening effort by approximately 40%, allowing a proportional reduction in curation compensation without impacting output quality (475 → 285).
Net effect: A monthly saving of −840 HBD (−32.7%) is generated exclusively from variable positions. Fixed infrastructure and Community Management remain untouched, preserving the operational backbone of the project.
At this rate, we show how to manage such a project with so many people for so little funds.
Generating Revenue
We have the goal to get income from different sources to be able to use less DHF funds. A first start is the small revenue from posts we do and the general activities of the communication and curation team.
At the moment, some other ideas could be:
① The worldmappin shop
A place to get not even just the merch we did, but as well some other travel-related products. Sounds easy, but shipping worldwide is a pain as shipping costs are high. We look for a smart way to solve this by partnering with others on each continent. Not yet solved, but in slow progress, a shop with Worldmappin merch and other products where we get a margin on will be implemented.
② Web2 media and partners in the travel industry
With special challenges, reports from real users, or just constant activities, we plan a little income to help with the monthly costs. But this is only a start, as Worldmappin is not yet known. Actually, we talk to different travel companies to get some bonus deals for Hivians and a kickback to Worldmappin on results.
③ Ideas from the community
We will start to use the creativity and the knowledge from our huge community to fine-tune a model on different ways of revenue generation. If you have an idea, feel free to talk to @detlev

Wow, Just love the metrics and professional way this community is being managed.
Many thanks to the team managing now, and the group that started us on Pinmapple. Both great projects and so great to see the all the folks working together on it to improve the platform and bring more users. Many don't realize the amount of effort to manage a well-run community.
Thank you.
I'll be delegating some additional to the group in the near future.
Thanks @ksteem your positive feedback
This drives of us all to grow the community to the next level.
Excellent post, I hope we can get more stylish maps. I think that copying Google Map is a bit wasteful as there is not need to get all the data from satelite. I would recommend using OpenLayers instead from Open Street Maps, but have a more modern theme. Greetings from Starbucks.
will have a look into that.
Coffee / good idea - time for one more
Yeah I showed you a nice theme global map:

You can check these examples of how to use it with different plugins https://openlayers.org/en/latest/examples/
Also https://docs.maptiler.com/openlayers/examples/choropleth-geojson/ is a framework on top of OpenLayers
Wieder was gelernt
I think it's great that the investment has been detailed, as this allows us to understand the project's evolution, its profitability, and also consider the benefits that WorldMapPin offers Hive.
In my opinion, it's excellent that prioritized other more important areas, such as development and infrastructure, over marketing. It's better to have a solid and robust project with good performance than to invest a lot of money in advertising and marketing.
I hope that WorldMapin's growth continues and expands over time, and as a manager of food communities, I consider it an ideal tool for any user who wants to locate a restaurant or a gastronomic experience anywhere in the world.
Excellent report!
