¡Hola, amigos! ¿Cómo están? Bienvenidos de nuevo a mi blog. Desde hace un tiempo quería compartir con ustedes una noticia que me tiene súper emocionada. Pero bueno, con lo del terremoto, digamos que las cosas cambiaron un poco de rumbo y toda mi atención se desvió hacia allá. Más adelante les contaré con más detalle lo que estaré haciendo respecto a toda esta terrible situación, pero hoy quiero hablarles sobre un gran acontecimiento en mi vida: ¡por fin recibí mi nacionalidad española!

​Hello, friends! How are you? Welcome back to my blog. For a while now, I’ve been wanting to share some news that has me super excited. But well, with the earthquake, let's just say things took a bit of a detour and my attention was pulled elsewhere. I'll share more details later on about what I’ll be doing regarding this terrible situation, but today I want to talk about a huge milestone in my life: I finally received my Spanish nationality!

Tenía casi dos años esperando que llegaran mis papeles. De hecho, creo que alguna vez les compartí por aquí cuando fui a Caracas a hacer todo el trámite y el papeleo. Por fin, alrededor del 10 de junio, me escribieron del Consulado de España en Caracas (o de la Embajada) para notificarme que ya había llegado mi acta literal de nacimiento, y que también la habían enviado al consulado más cercano a mí, que es el de Lara. Como ya habían pasado casi dos años, no tenía en mente revisar el correo constantemente, así que vi la notificación casi una semana después. Aun así, el 22 de junio logré ir a retirar mi literal y, al mismo tiempo, hacer la solicitud de mi pasaporte español.

​I had been waiting almost two years for my papers to arrive. In fact, I think I shared here once about my trip to Caracas to handle all the paperwork and procedures. Finally, around June 10th, I received an email from the Spanish Consulate in Caracas (or the Embassy) notifying me that my literal birth certificate had arrived, and that it had also been sent to the closest consulate to me, which is in Lara state. Since almost two years had passed, checking my inbox wasn't really on my mind anymore, so I actually saw the email almost a week late. Even so, on June 22nd, I managed to go retrieve my certificate and, at the same time, apply for my Spanish passport.

Créanme que todos estos trámites son bastante tediosos, difíciles y requieren de mucha concentración para no equivocarse al responder cada pregunta de las planillas. Ese día me fui a Barquisimeto con una amiga que es mi "todo terreno" para ubicar el consulado, el cual queda bastante lejos del centro. Gracias a ella pudimos llegar de una forma muy práctica. Al llegar, me atendieron súper bien y todo fluyó de maravilla, excepto por un pequeño inconveniente con el que ya iba con dudas: en Yaracuy no encontré un sitio adecuado para tomarme una foto con las exigencias específicas de un pasaporte. Por suerte, en el mismo consulado me dieron la opción de ir a un centro comercial cercano. Allí me tomé una excelente foto que, de paso, me salió mucho más económica que las que pagué en San Felipe (donde probé en dos sitios distintos y fueron bastante costosas). Una vez resuelto lo de la foto, el proceso fue mucho más sencillo.

​Believe me, these administrative procedures are quite tedious, difficult, and require a lot of concentration to avoid making mistakes on any of the forms. That day, I headed to Barquisimeto with a friend who is my ultimate "ride-or-die" companion to locate the consulate, which is quite far from the city center. Thanks to her, we got there in a very practical way. Once there, the staff treated me incredibly well and everything went smoothly, except for a minor issue I already had doubts about: in Yaracuy, there isn't really a proper place to get a photo taken with the strict requirements needed for a passport. Fortunately, at the consulate, they suggested I go to a nearby shopping center. There, I got a great photo that ended up being much cheaper than the ones I took back in San Felipe (where I tried two different places and they were very expensive). After resolving the photo situation, the rest of the process was a breeze.

Realmente el apoyo que nos brindaron en el consulado para llenar la planilla fue impecable, siempre cuidando cada detalle para evitar cualquier error en esos formularios que son tan delicados. Después de terminar, mi amiga y yo fuimos a comer y luego emprendimos el viaje de regreso a mi estado. Fue un día grandioso en el que logramos el objetivo a pesar de los pequeños contratiempos, como tener que imprimir una planilla de último minuto o sacar la fotocopia de algún documento faltante. Al final, fue un día súper productivo. Tenía muchísimas ganas de compartir esto con ustedes porque era una de mis grandes metas para este año; y aunque no dependía enteramente de mí, ¡se logró! No se imaginan lo hermoso que se siente formar parte de otra nación que te abre las puertas y te regala nuevas oportunidades.

​Additionally, the assistance provided at the consulate to fill out the form was impeccable, always making sure we avoided any mistakes on those very delicate documents. Once we finished, my friend and I grabbed a bite to eat and then started our journey back home. It was a great day because we achieved our goal despite the minor setbacks, like having to print a last-minute form or making photocopies of a missing document. In the end, it was an incredibly productive day. I was so eager to share this with you all because it was one of my biggest goals for this year; and even though it didn’t depend entirely on me, it actually happened! You can't imagine how beautiful it feels to become part of another nation that is opening its doors and offering new opportunities.
