Seit ich mich mit Kryptowährungen beschäftige, hat sich einiges verändert.

Im Sommer 2017 habe ich meinen ersten Bitcoin gekauft – für etwa 800 Euro.
Das genaue Datum weiß ich heute nicht mehr. Es war eher ein Ausprobieren als ein Plan. Vieles fühlte sich neu an, ein bisschen unsicher, aber gleichzeitig spannend.

Ich wusste damals nicht, wohin mich das führen würde.
Nicht, wie oft ich Dinge wieder verwerfen würde.
Und auch nicht, dass es irgendwann weniger um den Preis gehen würde – sondern um das, was man unterwegs lernt.

Vor fast 6 Jahren, am 09.07.2020, bin ich dann mit etwa einem halben Bitcoin in das Hive-Ökosystem eingestiegen.

Eigentlich bin ich gerade über ein ganz anderes Thema darauf gekommen.

Ich habe mich zuletzt intensiver mit meinen Steuerunterlagen beschäftigt und wollte einmal wissen, wie sich mein Portfolio entwickelt hätte, wenn ich meine Gewinne anders investiert hätte.

Daraus entstand die Idee für eine Gegenüberstellung:
Was wäre passiert, wenn ich alles in BTC gelassen hätte – und wie sieht es im Vergleich zu Hive aus?

Wichtig dabei:

Ein großer Teil meines Hive-Bestands entstand nicht durch viele kleine Käufe, sondern durch eine einmalige Entscheidung im Jahr 2021. Ich bin damals relativ günstig an etwa 55k Hive gekommen und habe im Laufe der Zeit immer wieder etwas ergänzt.

Mit meinem heutigen Power-up bin ich bei 100k HP angekommen.

Die Grafik zeigt daher kein exaktes Abbild meiner Historie, sondern ein vereinfachtes Modell, um die Entwicklung vergleichbar zu machen.

Und trotzdem sagt sie etwas aus.

Ich habe versucht, die Entwicklung möglichst einfach darzustellen. Kein perfektes Modell, sondern eine Annäherung: gleiche Ausgangsbasis, gleiche Zeiträume – nur unterschiedliche Wege. Auf der einen Seite Bitcoin, als reines Halten. Auf der anderen Seite Hive, mit Umschichtungen und den zusätzlichen Rewards über die Zeit.

Die Unterschiede werden dabei recht schnell sichtbar.
Es ist keine exakte Rechnung – aber eine, die mir zumindest ein Gefühl dafür gegeben hat.

Bitcoin macht genau das, was man erwartet. Wenn der Markt läuft, wächst der Wert. Wenn er fällt, geht er runter. Klassisch.

Hive fühlt sich anders an. Der Preis ist schwächer, keine Frage. Aber der Bestand wächst weiter. Jeden Tag ein bisschen durch Aktivität. Curation. Posts. Teilnahme.

Am Ende stehen heute:

• Hive: ~100k HP Token
• davon über 33k durch Rewards
• Splinterlands: ~100k SPS Token
• dazu laufende Rewards aus NFTs, Staking und Node-Lizenz

Und das ist der Unterschied.

Bitcoin wächst durch den Markt.
Hive wächst auch ohne ihn.

Aktuell ist BTC mehr wert.
Aber Hive hat mir etwas anderes aufgebaut: einen Bestand, der nicht nur vom Preis abhängt.

Und was man nicht unterschätzen sollte: der Lerneffekt. Der Umgang mit zentralen und dezentralen Börsen. Wie man Fiat in Krypto bringt – und wieder zurück. Welche Wege günstig sind und wo Abhängigkeiten entstehen.

Aber nicht nur das. Hive war für mich auch ein Ort, an dem ich angefangen habe, Dinge festzuhalten. Gedanken aufzuschreiben. Erlebnisse zu reflektieren. Nicht geplant. Nicht perfekt. Einfach so, wie sie entstanden sind.

Und mit der Zeit kommt noch etwas dazu: Der Austausch. Kommentare, Diskussionen, unterschiedliche Sichtweisen. Manchmal Bestätigung, manchmal Widerspruch. Und oft die Erkenntnis, dass viele Dinge gar nicht so weit auseinanderliegen, wie man zuerst denkt. Dass man Ansichten teilt – oder zumindest beginnt, sie gegeneinander abzuwägen. Das verändert den Blick.

Natürlich lief nicht alles glatt. Es gab Fehlentscheidungen. Investitionen, bei denen ich am Ende mehr Hive verbrannt habe als gut war. Aber ehrlich gesagt: Das gehört dazu. Ähnliche Momente gab es auch bei Bitcoin – Projekte, in die ich BTC gesteckt habe und die sich am Ende nicht getragen haben.

Es gab auch Phasen, in denen ich einfach Dinge ausprobiert habe – verschiedene Wege erkundet habe, manchmal über mehrere Konten hinweg. Nicht, weil ich einen festen Plan hatte, sondern weil sich Gelegenheiten ergaben und ich verstehen wollte, wie das System funktioniert.

Mit der Zeit hat sich das geändert. Heute fühlt sich „weniger“ natürlicher an. Klarer, ruhiger, nachvollziehbarer. Ich werde mich mehr auf das Wesentliche konzentrieren und die Dinge vereinfachen, anstatt sie weiter auszubauen.

Und vielleicht ist genau das der eigentliche Wert:

Nicht nur das, was geblieben ist – sondern das, was man unterwegs gelernt hat.

Und genau das sind mit Gründe, warum ich nach 6 Jahren immer noch hier bin.
Nicht nur wegen der Zahlen. 🙂

Was ist langfristig stabiler – Preis oder Beteiligung?

Und was meine Steuern betrifft:
Da bin ich optimistisch.

2026 wird vermutlich schlechter als 2025,
aber dafür besser als 2027. 😉

6 years of Hive – a path I never planned

Since I got involved with cryptocurrencies, quite a few things have changed.

In the summer of 2017, I bought my first Bitcoin – for around 800 euros.
I don’t remember the exact date anymore. It was more of an experiment than a plan. Everything felt new, a bit uncertain, but at the same time exciting.

Back then, I had no idea where this would lead me.
Not how often I would rethink things.
And not that at some point it would become less about price – and more about what you learn along the way.

Almost 6 years ago, on July 9th, 2020, I entered the Hive ecosystem with roughly half a Bitcoin.

Actually, I came back to this through a completely different topic.

Recently, I’ve been going through my tax records and started wondering how my portfolio would have developed if I had invested my gains differently.

That led to a simple comparison:
What would have happened if I had kept everything in BTC – and how does it compare to Hive?

One important note:

A large part of my Hive holdings didn’t come from many small purchases, but from a single decision in 2021. Back then, I was able to acquire around 55k Hive at a relatively low price and added to it over time.

With today's power-up, I've reached 100k HP.

So the chart doesn’t represent my exact history, but rather a simplified model to make the development comparable.

And still, it says something.

I tried to keep the model as simple as possible. Not perfect, just an approximation: same starting point, same timeframes – but different paths. On one side Bitcoin, simply held. On the other side Hive, with reallocations and additional rewards over time.

The differences become visible quite quickly.
It’s not an exact calculation – but it gave me a sense of how things evolved.

Bitcoin behaves exactly as expected. When the market runs, the value goes up. When it drops, it goes down. Classic.

Hive feels different. The price is weaker, no question.
But the balance keeps growing. A little bit every day through activity. Curation. Posts. Participation.

Today, this is where I stand:

Hive: ~100k HP
more than 33k of that from rewards
Splinterlands: ~100k SPS
plus ongoing rewards from NFTs, staking, and node license

And that’s the difference.

Bitcoin grows through the market.
Hive grows even without it.

Right now, BTC is worth more.
But Hive has built something different for me: a position that doesn’t rely solely on price.

And there’s something else that shouldn’t be underestimated: the learning process. Understanding centralized and decentralized exchanges. How to move fiat into crypto – and back again. Which routes are efficient, and where dependencies exist.

But it’s not just that. Hive also became a place where I started to write things down. To capture thoughts. To reflect on experiences. Not planned. Not perfect. Just as they came.

And over time, something else developed: interaction. Comments, discussions, different perspectives. Sometimes confirmation, sometimes disagreement. And often the realization that many views aren’t that far apart after all. That you share perspectives – or at least begin to weigh them against your own. It changes how you see things.

Of course, not everything worked out. There were wrong decisions. Investments where I ended up burning more Hive than I should have. But honestly: that’s part of it. I had similar moments with Bitcoin – putting BTC into projects that didn’t work out in the end.

There were also phases of simply trying things out – exploring different paths, sometimes across multiple accounts. Not because of a fixed plan, but because opportunities appeared and I wanted to understand how the system works.

Over time, that shifted. These days, less feels more natural. Clearer, calmer, easier to follow. I’ll be focusing more on what matters and simplifying things, rather than continuing to expand them.

And maybe that’s the real value:

Not just what remains – but what you’ve learned along the way.

And that’s one of the reasons why I’m still here after 6 years.
Not just because of the numbers. 🙂

What is more stable in the long run – price or participation?

And regarding my taxes:
I’m optimistic.

2026 will probably be worse than 2025,
but better than 2027. 😉
