Champlain Valley Orchards in Shoreham, Vermont

On Sunday, we visited Champlain Valley Orchards in Shoreham, Vermont. A young couple started Champlain Valley Orchards on 60 acres in 1998 but the property dates back to the 1880's. Here is their story history

This old barn is one of the original buildings still in use. Champlain Valley Orchards introduced diverse and disease-resistant apple varieties. They grow Liberty which is my current favorite tree and also Williams' Pride and Freedom that I plan to plant next year. The also grow Novamac that I planted last year. All have excellent disease resistance.

Champlain Valley Orchards has grown to 220 acres and apple picking season is quite an event. They now grow 115 varieties of apple trees and harvest over 100,000 bushels of apples a year.

I love this display of many of their varities of apples!

They have a a information board with a map and all the varieties open for picking. I think 46 varieties the day we picked.

They have a nice map/brochure to guide you around to the different apples. We picked one half a peck (about 5-6 lbs) of apples. We focused on varieties we like to eat plus some we have planted or are considering planting at our home. Plus some donuts 😋

The main farmstand has the feel of an old country store. We arrived early but as we left there was a steady stream of cars arriving.

Here's a photo of the farmstand and old barn from the parking lot. Many of the cars were from New York but then again you can see New York from here just across the lake. In fact, the orchard is nearer to New York than to my house 😆
