Reminder: Round 4 of the Hivechess Tournament S22 , Friday 19h GMT!

Dear chess fans!

this Friday, 1st May, the 4th round of season 22 is played, at the usual time!
The current standings after 3 rounds you can find here.

Time for some good old Fischer random chess. Since I am abroad on vacation, not sure if I will be able to join.

Mode: 4+1 (4 minutes per game, 1 sec. increment), chess960 (Fischer random) arena.

Tournament Links

Masters (>=1800): https://lichess.org/tournament/YtRIh4mU
Challengers (<1800): https://lichess.org/tournament/2iEQd6pU

The prize pool contains already >500 Hive!

Rules

  • All players are welcome, also newbies, you just need a free Lichess-account and join our team in Lichess here (password is "Hive")!
  • Every Friday is one round.
  • Time mode is varying (5+0, 3+2, 2+1,...), sometimes Swiss, sometimes Chess960 (=Fischer Random, Freestyle).
  • The winner of each round gets the number of points equaling the number of players in that round, the second ranked one point less and so forth until the one on the bottom of the table who gets one point (i.e. the Lighteye-scoring). In order to be counted, at least 5 games must have been played.
  • If two players have the same number of points, the one who played less rounds is first. If that is equal too, then eventually the last direct decisive encounter rules.
  • PAYOUT: The tournament points of the 10 rounds are summed up. The top 3 of the Challengers are allowed to play in the Masters next season. The top 3 of both tournaments will get special prizes, the rest of the prize pool is divided according to the number of tournament points achieved (50%) and the number of rounds played (50%). In order to qualify for a prize you have to participate in at least five of the ten rounds!
  • If I don´t know your Hive username, you won´t be considered for the standings and prizes, so please let me know your Hive name in the comments!
  • Sandbagging is forbidden and will be punished.
  • The full set of rules you can look up in the announcement post!

See you tomorrow and good luck!

On another note, the 17 year old Ukrainian IM Roman Dehtiarov in a huge upset won the European Individual Chess Championship, held recently in Katowice, Poland - as both the youngest and lowest-seeded player ever in this 11-round Swiss tournament with classical time control. He ranked only 126th out of 501 players, with a 2452 rating, but took sole first place with 9 out of 11, half a point ahead of GMs Nijat Abasov, Aydin Suleymanli, and Mahammad Muradli. With this victory, he secured a spot in the 2027 FIDE World Cup, and got an instant GM title as the winner of a continental championship.
Another talent to watch...

And on another note, Magnus Carlsen is playing classical chess again! In Sweden’s historic TePe Sigeman Chess tournament he will face some tough opponents including Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Arjun Erigaisi.

Round 4 should be fun.
Young players are getting good quite fast.
Lets see how Magnus does in the tournament - nice to see him play more classical chess.

Do you think he may try to go last time for a 2900 rating in upcoming year or two? Hard to gain points at this level but if he is about 2860 after some tournaments maybe he can try.

2900? Almost impossible! Also he would need to play much more classical games what he doesnt like anymore.

You are right. With his rating gaining 5 points or more from one tournament is quite hard.
It would be nice though if there is a some path toward it. Maybe this tournament starts the climb.

Good day, I think there's an oversight with the time setting.. it's an hour earlier than usual. @stayoutoftherz

Yes, indeed! I noticed it too late. I am in a different time zone currently and mixed up the time zones :(
