When we are young or immersed in our daily routines, we rarely stop to think about the fragility of time. We live as if our days were infinite, without consciously planning how we want to grow old or how we wish to accompany our loved ones through their golden years. However, life silently reminds us that we all carry an invisible clock that never stops—one that, second by second, slowly subtracts time from our lives.

In my childhood, my parents represented the fundamental base of our home. They were the solid foundation that gave us security, guidance, and a warm shelter against any storm. But as the saying goes, the days do not pass in vain. Life continues its relentless course, and suddenly we find ourselves facing the hardest blows we must endure as children.

Hace 14 años me tocó despedir a mi padre.

14 years ago, I had to say goodbye to my father. When the main pillar of a home leaves, the impact is felt in the deepest part of the soul; I still remember it as clearly as if it were yesterday. Nevertheless, time kept moving forward, and just six years after that great loss, my mother began showing the first signs of senile dementia. At first, she would forget daily routines and small details, although she could still manage on her own for the most part.

As three more years went by, her condition worsened until she lost a large part of her mental faculties. Watching the progressive decline of a mother is an unbearable pain that tears your heart apart. It reached a point where she no longer remembered my father, my brother, or the beautiful moments we had built together. Her illness kept progressing day after day until, 13 years after my father's passing, my mother also passed away. Losing both of them is a deeply painful journey that you never truly forget.

In the midst of so much nostalgia and pain, I have come to understand the invaluable worth of an act that seems insignificant to many: taking a photo. Often we feel too lazy to pose, or we think it isn't necessary to record a simple moment. But in the long run, a photograph is much more than a piece of paper or a digital file; it is a time machine that immortalizes a moment forever.

When memory fades or when loved ones are no longer physically with us, a simple image brings back their smiles, the warmth of happier days, and the certainty that we were deeply loved. A photo rescues the memory right from the time when health and joy filled our home.

Moraleja: Honrar el presente y capturar la vida / Moral: Honor the Present and Capture Life

Let us not leave for tomorrow the hugs, the heartfelt conversations, or the shared photos. Life's clock keeps ticking, and the greatest wealth we accumulate is not material goods, but those moments of happiness we manage to immortalize in our hearts and visual memories.
