Male cannabis plant found

avatar
(Edited)

When using regular seeds (non-feminized) sometimes I will get a male plant. I will remove it and replace it with another seed and start growing that. As I do not want them, they will just make my female plants seedy if I keep it in there. And since I do not know which strains these are, and my limited amount of plants I can grow by law I will just kill off this plant. As I want four female plants, the max I can have by law at any point during the grow. All and all though its pretty apparent that is a male plant with the flowers forming on it.

Reminds me to check better when getting cannabis seeds to make sure they are feminized, otherwise there is a 50/50 change I will get a male plant. Growing clones can also avoid this issue, but seeds are readily available where I live.. not clones.

The male cannabis plants show their sex earlier than the females, so I hope this is the only male I have to deal with. But its always know for sure until I see the buds forming on the females when they switch over. Since some of these are autos they will switch on their own.. And one of them is a photoperoid which should change to flowering when I switch the lights and timing cycles.

So I will pull it up, and start a new seed. Hopefully the new one will catch up. I will make sure to add the rooting powder to give it a chance to catch up to the others.

It happens, just a part of growing cannabis with regular seeds.. I was expecting one or two just by how common it is.

The other three are doing great, one of them is too young to show its sex yet but the two others sure look like females to me.

Those two I topped are coming back now with new leaves and looking good.

The older one is growing a little faster than the younger one but pretty close to the same.

My male plant is on the bottom left hand side. From a far it just looks like the others. But when you get close you see its "balls"..lol

With it pulled out I compare it to my little hand shovel I use.

Looks like the roots were growing quite nicely. Comparing it to my old plants these roots grew out more to the sides vs the old ones growing straight down mostly. So I will toss out this seedling and start a new one.. hopefully it will be a female.. but you never know for sure.

One last thing, I wanted to show how cool it looks when I add sugar to my yeast bucket. It is really amazing how quickly the yeast reacts to the sugar and starts foaming right away producing lots of carbon dioxide for the plants. They really like the stuff as it helps them grow stronger and faster.

Good evening my brother

Maybe for the layman it is very difficult to distinguish between male and female plants, if you look at it briefly.

Hopefully your plants can grow well. Continue your great work, have a nice day my brother ♥️

That is true, they do look similar until you get up close.

It's a pity that in Brazil the cultivation of marijuana is prohibited, you always bring some useful knowledge on the subject.

That is a shame, hope they legalize one day where you live.

Hello dear friend @solominer
I'm glad you detected this May plant in time and replaced it with another seed. I hope the seed grows quickly
Thank you very much for sharing this experience

That's really interesting. I know almost nothing of botany or gardening, but it is really interesting.

What state do you live in that allows you to grow four of them? That's something that I don't think Japan will allow in my lifetime. But if I ever go back stateside, I don't think my home state Indiana will allow it anytime soon either.

I live in Virginia, its on the low side for sure but states above me like Maryland only allow 3 so I guess I am doing alright here.

Ah damn yeah, where I lived previously I had no hope for legalizing there so glad I am now in a state where it is allowed.

That's cool. My kids are small so I don't really want to mess with anything right now anyway; maybe by the time they are older and out of the house, rules will change. The US does seem on the path for it to be legal everywhere eventually. But... like I said, I have no hope for Japan. But who knows, maybe in the next generation attitudes could change.

Hey there, the Bilpcoin team just wanted to give you a virtual high-five we manually curated this post.

Their attempts to intimidate and silence their critics are equally concerning. The use of downvotes as a means of censorship is a clear indication of their desperation to maintain their grip on the narrative. But it's not working

Bad downvotes on Hive are a growing concern that must be addressed. These downvotes not only discourage users from sharing their real thoughts and ideas but also damage the community as a whole, we see many walk away

.
éxitos con tu planta

You know here in cuba 🇨🇺 is forbidden 🚫 you go prison nor the big plant producers, they have permission to plant cannabis. I congratulate you keep showing us the progress and have you tried it ????

Greetings and happy weekend bro 😊🙏🏻🪴

Yeah they are really growing a lot now. I have started to increase their watering to keep up with all their growth.

Ah that sucks, where I used to live it was like that.

Well from these plants I have no buds yet. But I did try some of my outdoor I grew last year and it was tasty.. has a menthol/mint flavor to it.

thanks man you too

It looks cool my friend, you found a male among some cannabis seeds that you planted, it turns out that there are male seeds in it, I just found out that male cannabis seeds are very influential for female cannabis seeds 😊

Ah yeah it is something that tends to happen when growing marijuana. But its okay, I was expecting it.

Hah yeah if I wanted to breed them, I would make use of the males.. but I do not have an interest in that right now.

I saw cannabis plants grow in the wild as a child in Ukraine and thought that they just grow like weeds (no pun intended). Turns out there is a whole science if you want to grow them right!

Oh cool. I hear they do grow wild in many places around the world. Since I have only been in the US I have never seen anything like that besides in pictures.

Hah yeah if you grow them well they turn out a lot better than ones grown in the wild.

The process you are doing is a bit laborious. Can't you just dig some extra seedlings during the first planting and then kill the males when their gender becomes clear? Isn't this method legal?

Yeah its a lot of work. I can only have four plants at a time by law, that includes seedlings unfortunately.

They're such beautiful plants, my brother grew one 20 or so years ago, it never flowered and went very tree like, he moved to uni and we had to plant it in the wilds. I've had a few friends with grows and when they bud they look especially captivating, thank you :)

May I ask what is the difference between a female and a male plant? I am curious.

0

Female produces buds which contains the resin, while the male just makes flower with pollen.

The male cannabis plants show their sex earlier than the females, so I hope this is the only male I have to deal with.

I have always known that we have both male and female plants but spotting the difference is the real deal.
You are doing an amazing job, well done.

Yes, cannabis can actually be pruned similarly to how tomatoes are pruned. It’s a great technique to encourage branch growth and increase yield. Pruning and even methods like air layering (marcoting) can be fascinating ways to propagate or enhance plants. =)

It's good to see a realistic account of the challenges that can come with growing from regular seeds. It's a common occurrence, and your approach of removing the male plant and starting a new one is definitely the right way to go.I appreciate your detailed explanation of the process and your observations about the plant's sex differentiation. The photos are also helpful in illustrating the differences between male and female plants. It's great that you're keeping an eye on your other plants and that they're doing well!I'm also fascinated by your experiment with adding sugar to your yeast bucket. It's interesting to see how this can help boost plant growth. Thanks for sharing this valuable information and for your candid and informative post.I'm sure it will be helpful to other growers!
