When they cut off the power 🔦 Cuando quitan la electricidad - Monomad Challenge

The electricity supply problem in Venezuela has been severe over the past three months, at least in much of the country.

El problema del servicio eléctrico en Venezuela ha estado fuerte los últimos tres meses, al menos para una gran parte del país.

Power outages are unscheduled, they can happen at any time, and in recent months they have lasted an average of 5 hours a day. When the power goes out during the day, it’s perhaps more bearable because you can keep yourself busy with other things, but at night it’s harder to cope with.

Los cortes de electricidad no están programados, pueden ocurrir a cualquier hora, y su duración promedio estos meses ha sido de 5 horas diarias. Cuando quitan el servicio de día es quizás más llevadero porque te puedes dedicar a hacer otras cosas, pero en la noche se siente más.

One of those nights when the power was out, just to pass the time, I decided to grab a flashlight, shine it on some objects around the house, and use the resulting shadows and light to take a series of photographs.

Una de esas noches sin luz, para entretenerme, se me ocurrió agarrar la linterna, enfocar algunos objetos de la casa y con esas sombras y luces resultantes tomar una serie de fotografías.

In the different spaces, I played around with some everyday items: cables, kitchenware, and decorations.

En los diferentes espacios, jugué con algunas cosas cotidianas: cables, enseres de cocina y decoraciones.

They’ve said there will be a solution soon, that this time they’re really going to fix the electrical system completely. Let’s hope so... In the meantime, when the power goes out, sometimes ideas lights up 😉.

Han dicho que pronto habrá una solución, que ahora sí van a reparar por completo el sistema eléctrico. Ojalá... Mientras tanto, cuando la luz se va, a veces las ideas se encienden 😉.
