Introducing myself

I have been looking for a writing platform for awhile now; I write on a number of subjects—both fiction and non-fiction—and nothing seemed to fit. A good friend of mine, who's been on PeakD for quite awhile suggested I try the platform. I won't lie, figuring out the keys and keychains was a bit new to me, but now that I am finally on the platform, I thought I'd introduce myself.

I think of myself, more and more, as a humanist in our ever more mechanical society. I believe in human values—and the value of humans—as taught in the great classics of our own and other civilizations.

I'm interested in a lot of different things—history, philosophy, religion, the current (sad) state of the world, martial arts, classic films. My reading is equally broad—I've switched from Philip K. Dick and Kafka last week to Cervantes, Solzhenitsyn, and Donald Hamilton this week.

I'm a writer; I've finished three novels which I have been slow to publish because of the current market, but I'm getting close. My novels are (ostensibly) detective fiction, but in a very nightmarish, possibly unreal world—Raymond Chandler in a PKD world, I sometimes say. The people who have read them so far have said good things, so I hope they'll spread by word of mouth. I've got a number of other works in various stages of progress, and need to make more time to write fiction—I hope PeakD will be a good place for that.

I'm also interested in writing about ideas; I tend to see connections among a wide range of historical phenomena and intellectual trends, and trying to tie things together, to make some sense of the world we find ourselves in, is a pretty compelling endeavor for me.

introduceyourself religion philosophy society writing fiction neoxian hive

I have no idea what Splinterlands is. I have only the vaguest notion of what Crypto is. I'm ok with both those gaps in my education.

I'm looking forward to finding my way around on a new platform, and, hopefully, engaging in some interesting and substantive conversations.

Welcome to hive.

Hive is a blockchain and a blogging platform.

PeakD is a “front-end” which uses the hive blockchain. There are many other front ends.

It's definitely a new world - but it's getting clearer...

Hi there, welcome to Hive.

If it's easier, think of Hive as a House. There are many doors called "front ends" to get inside. Each front end look and feel different but they all get you inside the same place called Hive. Peakd is a frontend, as is hive.blog, Ecency, liketu, inLeo etc. It doesn't matter which frontend you use to post, everyone else on Hive can see it regardless of which front end they use.

Have fun!

Thank you! That actually clarifies things quite a lot. I will look at the other front ends and see if another may be a bit more intuitive for me...

You'll get the hang of it with time. In the meantime, yeah, would be cool to see more of... uhh what's your dog's name? And no time to waste... The work awaits your detective fiction pieces.

I'm not finding the platform exactly intuitive - but little by little, I'll get it. The dog (now in the Pure Land) was named Bear - a street dog who adopted me when I lived in Ecuador. He was an amazing beast... And I can share my substack here. Well, I can try...

Yeah you will, little by little. Bear must have been an interesting part of your life. You might want to do it the other way around, though - share your Hive stuff on Substack instead.

Bear was a unique and amazing creature; I miss him deeply. And you may be right about sharing Hive things on Substack. Honestly, I haven't a clue on how to make good use of the Substack; at this point, it's just a reason to edit a chapter a week - but it's not effective for a novel.

Welcome to Hive! So glad you're here! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! You can follow @tarazkp and @galenkp for reflective content. Tarazkp posts at least one time daily, and GalenkP hosts the "Weekend Engagement, a series where he asks a few questions every week of which you can answer one. The questions give much food for though.

Here's the latest: https://peakd.com/hive-168869/@galenkp/weekend-engagement-topics-week-261

Looking forward to reading your posts! And more of your comments!

Hello there, welcome.

In time you'll find your own rhythm, the spaces you wish to occupy, and your relationships will develop. I always seek passion, personality and effort when I'm curating and people who display those qualities are often those who I seek to engage with more often such as beelzael for instance. Others look for different attributes, and that's ok, it's all about finding a niche in which one feels comfortable.

Enjoy.

Sometimes I wish PeakD had the "🤣" as a vote button...

That would be in innovation...give lol's instead of monetary rewards.

There is the lolz-bot, so it shouldn't be too hard to do that. Implement a token next to the upvote that automatically sends a Lolz token. But that's coming from someone who is incredibly proud that he managed to set a table of content with internal links/anchors using HTML, so gotta take that with a jar of salt.

Yeah, I mute all that shit from my communities because I think it's like dropping garbage on people's posts. I've downvoted people who call it up on my posts in the past.

Those many comments are indeed annoying. It would serve better if it was just a button to upvote on funny posts.

On the other hand, there's a huge community who cherishes all those little tokens. I haven't made my mind up about those yet, as I do not really understand them. But the "white papers" that I scanned over were usually thinking about supporting Hive, each one with their own twist.

If they want to transfer me BTC then fine, or better still, make valid and relevant comments on my posts and get engaged. Anything else is trash.

Which of Solzhenitsyn's did you decide to read? Hello.

Hello! I've been reading "In the First Circle" fairly slowly - it's an interesting book, though very complex structurally.

I came across this book in 2013, I was 36 years old then. It was interesting to read about Russian scientists in sharashkas. And before that I watched a film based on this work, the film is very good.

It'll definitely take me awhile - it's a long book, and if there's one main plot, that plot hasn't revealed itself yet. But it gives very interesting insights on life in those horrible time - and has inspired me to start a biography of Stalin.

Many thanks! I've been rather busy, so I haven't been able to write anything substantive - but there are a couple of ideas in my mind; I just need to get them down on virtual paper...
