“Ohhh…..That’s Going To Leave A Mark!”😳
They say, “The Bigger They Are, The Harder They Fall!”🙄
Well we definitely grow them Big in the Pacific Northwest!😇
Unfortunately, many of the trees have a very poorly anchored root system!
Just take a look at the third photo!😮
Combine that with how close some of these tall trees are to homes, like in the fifth photo, and you have a recipe for a disaster!😬
Silvertop thinks twice about hiking during severe wind storms!
When the tops of some of these tall trees start swaying back and forth, crashing into each other, it’s rather spooky hiking a narrow single footpath trail!
There isn’t really any place to run!😬
“Silvertop we worry about you and Liz hiking during dangerous wind storms!”😳
That was Lynne one of Silvertop’s neighbors, concerned about us last year!
She lives Off Grid, high up on top of a Ridge on Sumas Mountain at the end of our road.
She tells me that during wind storms, she has a “Safe place” in her home, away from glass windows!😮
Then we have those “Hanging” trees, like the one photo near the end of my post!😬
“Liz, when do you think that one’s coming down?”😇
The last photo is Liz and Silvertop’s Western Red Cedar tree…………
It’s approximately 535 years old, and stands majestically only 20 feet from our back patio doors!
It has weathered many wind storms over the Centuries, and is still standing strong and tall!
It is officially considered an old Growth/ Heritage Cedar tree!👍😊
If only it could talk Lol……………….😇
