1936 Poland 2 Zlotys

The 1936 Polish 2 Złotys “Sailing Ship” coin has a simple charm. It was minted to mark the 15th anniversary of the Seaport of Gdynia. On the reverse, a three‑masted square‑rigger rides the waves!

The ship on the coin is modeled after the Dar Pomorza, the “White Frigate,” a vessel that means a lot to Poland’s maritime story.

Because so many of these coins were lost or melted during World War II, finding an original today feels special. It’s one of those pieces collectors hold onto not just for rarity, but for the story behind it.

Some collectors and stackers are drawn to ship-themed coins. Here in Hive, there is @kerrislravenhll, and @silverd510, and myself, to name just a few.

I also want to acknowledge @matthew1, who has the same 1936 Polish 2 Złotys in his stack.

That is so awesome! I would love to have one that nice! I only have a couple Polish coins and that's not one of them, but I love the design. It's a ship coin, so I'll have to keep my eyes open to add it to my collection!

I have three Polish coins myself, I think. Just like my vintage rounds, I throw all silver coins in a case, and do not go through them at times.
Thank you, @thebighigg!

Very true. When I got this, there was another coin of a different denomination that was also silver. I chose this one because it was in much better shape. I should have bought the other one too!
Thank you, @silvertop. (I have to go through my previous post to catch up, be patient, my friend.-

What a beautiful coin. The details of the Dar Pomorza ship on the reverse look amazing. It is sad to think that so many of these pieces were lost or melted down during WWII, but that definitely makes having an original one today feel incredibly special. Even though I am not a collector, I really enjoyed reading the history behind this 1936 piece. Thanks for sharing.❤️

I, myself, was not into gold, or silver, or coins! That was about ten years ago. But as you learn about the true value of these things... who knows! There might be a stacker in you!!
Thanks @meshbd.

Haha, @silversaver888, you might actually be right! To be completely honest, I have a strong desire to start collecting these beautiful pieces too, but I just don't have the extra budget for it right now. But who knows, if I ever become financially able to do so in the future, I will definitely follow your footsteps and start my own stack! Thank you so much for the inspiration and the lovely tips🌹🌹❤️❤️

Very nice, good condition. I had one years ago in much worse shape. Got rid of it because of that.

There are many ship coins! I think, even if we put our stacks together, we barely scratch the surface!

I don’t know about that….. I think between me you and Kerris we cover the majority of them. I have over 120 ship coins.

Hey, thanks for the mention! The history of Polish maritime culture is strange, but interesting. I recommend reading up on it 😉 This coin is in really nice condition!

I have yet to see the 2 or the 5 Zloty version at my local Richmond coin store. Mind you I haven't been there for almost a year so I am overdue for another visit. I've seen a few on Ebay. I'll let you know if I ever land one of these.

Always, with Love 🤗🌺❤️
