¿Are you aware of your double face? ...it's my MeMe #306

¡You have two faces! no matter how much you refuse to accept it. Because society depends on hypocrisy and hypocrisy is not just a necessary byproduct of civilization; it’s what makes civilization possible in the first place. And as such, we are conditioned to see it everywhere.

“The vile and groveling soul of the hypocrite is like a corpse, without fire, or warmth, or vitality left. I appeal to experience. Great villains have been known to return into themselves, end their life wholesomely, and die saved. But no one has ever known a hypocrite becoming a good man” - Jean Jacques Rousseau.

¿Are you a hypocrite?

Okay, let's see...

¿Is hypocrisy the most common & notorious social and behavioral trait in human beings?

While there is no absolute scientific consensus that crowns it as the most common trait above those such as cooperation or selfishness, hypocrisy is recognized by psychology and sociology as one of the most prevalent and functional social behaviors in human beings.

Since hypocrisy is defined as the inconsistency between what a person thinks and says (ethics, values, norms) and what they actually do, often feigning qualities or feelings contrary to their own in order to gain a benefit or avoid sanctions. Hypocrisy tends to be a social defect and human trait that is very easy to detect intuitively by truly sincere, honest, and authentic people.

¿Why is hypocrisy considered such a common trait?

  • Functional and Social Mechanism: Hypocrisy acts as a social "lubricant." It helps maintain order and appearances by upholding high moral standards, even if people don't live up to them in practice.

  • "Double Standard" as the Norm: It is common for people to adopt strict standards for others while justifying inconsistent actions themselves, a phenomenon known as moral hypocrisy.

  • Cognitive Dissonance: Science suggests that most humans fall into small, everyday hypocrisies, often motivated by fear, low self-esteem, or the desire to hide real intentions.

  • Adapting to expectations: This is used to fit into social groups or avoid public disapproval, showing a "double face" between public and private life.

In conclusion, hypocrisy is not merely a moral failing, but a behavioral strategy deeply ingrained in human social functioning. Although socially condemned, it is a frequent part of how individuals manage their image and interactions publicly.

It’s unavoidable, most of us are Hypocrites. Only that it’s Just a Matter of Scale.

¿Is it too hard to Not Be Seen as a Hypocrite? Well, for me this doesn’t sound hard at all. Simply say what you mean, mean what you say, do things in accordance with the things you say and ¡Poof! you’re not a hypocrite. For me, all this is as simple as that.

Because otherwise hypocrisy is bad in general, simply because it degrades social trust reducing our ability to work together, communicate efficiently and enjoy each other’s company. If I can’t trust you to do things the way you say you think things ought to be done, I can’t trust you with much because I will know that you’re either: a liar, an idiot, an ignorant, not self-aware, or some combination of all those things.

But let's dissect and deconstruct this deeper.

I suppose that for anyone who really thinks in a logical and reasonable way, it is more than evident that in real life most people, if not all, are subject to a series of laws, rules, conditions and social pressures of some kind. The key here is in the social aspect; don't lose sight of that infamous word. Since we will continue to mention it throughout this deeper scrutiny.

"Social" as referring to anything relating to human society, the interaction between individuals and groups or activities involving companionship. It defines how people live together, including social structures, classes and behaviors. It also describes the human tendency to form communities, tribes, clans and gangs. Human attributes known as a result of being a "social animal" that chooses to join and come together with other animals of its own specie in order not to feel alone and to ensure to a greater degree its own survival.

Perhaps in that previous brief definition of "Social" is where lies the germ and root of hypocrisy. Because of this very human tendency to form communities, tribes, clans and gangs in order to avoid loneliness and ensure a greater degree of survival, individuals are compelled to seek acceptance, validation and recognition at any cost within the group or groups to which they belong, believe they belong, or wish to belong.

And consequently, being forced and in need of consulting often the first pages of the collective human survival manual where it is indicated that in order to belong and remain safe, stable, accepted and respected in a group, community, tribe, clan or gang in a social environment, it will be necessary to follow the group rules, obey, flatter, lie and be hypocritical often betraying your own and most intimate and personal beliefs, values, principles and way of thinking. Your personal opinion has now been hijacked and supplanted by that of the group. Well, if you wish to remain being an accepted and protected member of the group. This is what most of us mistakenly call civilization.

But it's not just this; this is only what we've been seeing in real life for centuries, or since humans have been humans and of which we have written historical records of their condition. All the hypocrisy, lack of transparency and falsehood has been sharpened and exacerbated in the digital and virtual world that technology provides us through the internet as a global civilization and society. If something has expanded, been democratized and become more widespread in this human digital civilization, it is precisely hypocrisy. Because for the moment, until we are invaded by aliens or something, the internet seems to be the largest "social network" we can belong to.

And this has been a more than noticeable and prominent human behavior on social media in general. Particularly excelling in the dynamics of social interaction among peers in the so-called "social networks" of human grouping. Communities, tribes, clans, gangs, groups and digital ghettos where hypocrisy is the method and mechanism of survival and self-improvement per excellence. If you are not skilled at lying and deceiving, you will not prosper. If you are not capable of following whimsical rules, obeying, flattering and being hypocritical, you can consider yourself disposable and dead.

Now let's take a moment and stop a bit to observe, analyze and describe how hypocrisy manifests and develops in a "social network" like the one in Hive where there are economic and financial hierarchies that control and modulate the general behavior of its members through monetary rewards of some kind. ¿Are there any humans on Hive?

Of course there are, some. Few, but they exist. ¿Are they all hypocrites? Yes, the vast majority. Although fortunately there are exceptions. As we have been discussing, we're talking about humans. And as humans, they are and must be hypocrites simply to survive. And this is never more relevant and obvious than in an environment where money, reputation, prestige and wealth are the main incentives for climbing to better positions within the food chain. Make rich allies and friends, no matter how fake they are. I believe this is already becoming too obvious to many people here.

And I can assure you this, because in this type of monetized digital environment, between the time I was active on Steemit and the time I've spent here on Hive observing and analyzing the "social" dynamics and "human" behavior of everyone for almost ten years now and always from the other side of the fence. I have absolutely no doubt about what I affirm.

You may have an opinion and you're entitled to your own opinion on this matter. And I hope you have one. But until you share it clearly and publicly in the comments section of this long post, you can consider yourself a hypocrite. There's not much more to explain.

Nonetheless, maybe in a future post I may go into deeper and more detail about what I base my claims on and why I make those claims. The reason why I assure what I assure. Because this post has already gotten too long and I bet you're not going to read it until the end. Besides the fact that I am convinced that if you're a hypocrite, you'll never understand or digest anything of what I've already written in this post so far.

I must ponder this...  I cannot tell You how many times I have been chastised for speaking My true perspective.  Told I should not have admitted something, or should have held My tongue to seem to agree.

I am so "on my sleeve," Some get freaked out, I guess.

Well, it doesn't surprise me in the slightest, my dear friend. We both know, and I suspect that the vast majority here know too, that you are one of the few truly authentic people in this place. One who is not afraid to speak her mind despite and regardless of the adverse consequences you may receive for sharing your truths on the things you truly believes in. What makes you extraordinarily valuable and one in a million. We need more brave and honest people like you. Reflect on the subject as much as you need to dear. That at least I, for one, will be eager to hear and read your appreciated conclusions.

Hahaha yeah, the hypocrites and all the spurious, phony and inauthentic surely get freaked out upon hearing truths they cannot refute. And that's precisely our fun, to scare them to death every time we try to make them think.

Long live and better health babe!! :)

I think one of the reasons this resonates with me, and why I hardly ever post within communities is because I’ve noticed the same pressure to adapt yourself to groups in order to remain accepted within them over the long years of being with hive and other platforms. Especially online where reputation, visibility and rewards become intertwined with social behavior.

People often say “just be yourself”, or "be authentic" while the same systems quietly reward conformity, diplomacy and performance, basically "corporate think allowed only". Not always maliciously either, but sometimes it’s simply survival within the commie|unity.

That doesn’t mean authentic people do not exist, but it does make authenticity more costly than most are willing to admit.

Interesting read.

Yep, that's right. And you've been smart enough to not post anything on any community in Hive in order to not lose eventually the visibility and impact of the message of your content because suddenly some brainless retard decided to block you and mute you from their stupid commie|unity.

You certainly shouldn't expose yourself to pressure of any kind. Not here at Hive, nor anywhere else. Because to remain free and authentic in who you are and what you think, you must obviously have already freed yourself from all that nonsense of being accepted, validated, and recognized by idiots who think they are better than you. Because otherwise, you'll have no choice but to become into a hypocrite too. And we know that an intelligent and cunning guy like you doesn't want that.

Interesting read.

Thank you, my pleasure mate. And I'm glad my post had resonated with you. In fact, there are very few of us who think this way and we definitely need more brave people like us to make a difference.

Thanks for the follow and I'm so excited that you've joined our little clan.
