Paseando por un centro comercial de la ciudad, me encontré un kiosko que siempre tiene figuritas bastante particulares, pues resaltan personalidades destacadas, sobre todo de Argentina, viniendo a ser una especie de funkos locales bastante divertidos.

Anteriormente ya había visto unos cuantos, pero en esta visita encontré nuevos personajes, y hasta uno que para muchos quizás sea algo exagerado, pero para nosotros los venezolanos (tanto los que aún están en el país, como para los millones que tuvimos que salir de él) tiene un significado mucho mayor que un simple meme.

Van desde los más serios hasta los jocosos, paseándose por diferentes aspectos de la cultura argentina, siendo el de Gilda uno de los que me pareció demasiado tierno, pues más allá de hacerlo en tono de burla, lo veo como un homenaje a esta cantante de cumbia que dejó este plano demasiado pronto, aunque ello no significó que su música siga alegrando a más de uno.

De hecho, yo la conocí estando ya en Argentina, pues a diferencia de las grandes bandas que llevaron su música a tierras lejanas, ella se destacó en el mercado musical local, dejando una huella imborrable con las melodías interpretadas con su dulce voz.

Entre los deportistas, además de Messi, quien aparece con una cabra, haciendo alusión al apodo que se ha ganado (GOAT), aunque en realidad son las siglas de Great Of All Time (el mejor de todos los tiempos), está también Franco Colapinto, el joven que se destaca en las carreras de Fórmula 1, quien ya tiene su propio figurín.

Quizás muchos recuerden a Charly García por su música y sus performances en diferentes conciertos, pero acaso ¿alguien recuerda la hazaña de haber saltado desde la ventana de su habitación en el Hotel Aconcagua, hacia la pileta, ubicada a 18 metros de distancia? Este funko endógeno es la representación de ese suceso que pasó a la historia como una de las excentricidades de este músico argentino.

Y es que ni los santos locales se salvan. El Gauchito Gil, un personaje a quien le tienen mucha fe la mayoría de los argentinos, quienes acuden a él en momentos de premura, también tiene su representación pero al estilo ¡Goku!

Usando la analogía del nombre de este personaje de los Simpson, con la del grupo musical de cumbia, llega Rafa-ga, imitando al cantante de la banda con su característico cabello largo, aunque en la actualidad lo usa corto, pero en los videos de sus canciones más pegadizas, aparece tal cual este personaje. Una suerte poder estar representado como uno de los personajes de esta exitosa serie televisiva, aunque quizás el Rafa original no se vea tan bien en su aspecto regular.

Estos dos personajes, usualmente conviven en los espacios abiertos, ofreciendo sus productos comestibles a los usuarios de plazas, parques y playas. Sin embargo, durante el verano del año 2025, se suscitó una pelea entre dos vendedores que terminó viralizándose, no solo por la agresión, sino también por el hecho de pelearse un territorio comercial que realmente a ninguno le pertenece, siendo además inmortalizado por estas figuritas que además de creativas y originales, son un recordatorio de la cultura argentina que muchos otros deciden ignorar.

Whilst wandering around a shopping centre in the city, I came across a stall that always stocks rather unusual figurines, as they feature prominent figures, particularly from Argentina, making them a sort of fun local version of Funko figures.

I’d seen a few before, but on this visit I found new characters, and even one that many might find a bit over the top, but for us Venezuelans (both those still in the country and the millions of us who had to leave) it has a much greater significance than a simple meme.

They range from the most serious to the most humorous, covering different aspects of Argentine culture, with the one of Gilda being one that I found particularly touching, as beyond the playful tone, I see it as a tribute to this cumbia singer who left this world far too soon, although that doesn’t mean her music hasn’t continued to bring joy to many.

In fact, I only discovered her once I was already in Argentina, as unlike the big bands that took their music to distant lands, she made her mark on the local music scene, leaving an indelible impression with the melodies she sang in her sweet voice.

Among the sports stars, alongside Messi—who appears with a goat, alluding to the nickname he has earned (GOAT), although in reality it stands for ‘Greatest of All Time’—there is also Franco Colapinto, the young man making a name for himself in Formula 1 racing, who already has his own figurine.

Perhaps many remember Charly García for his music and his performances at various concerts, but does anyone recall the feat of him jumping from the window of his room at the Hotel Aconcagua into the swimming pool, 18 metres below? This locally produced Funko figure depicts that event, which went down in history as one of the eccentricities of this Argentine musician.

And not even the local saints are spared. Gauchito Gil, a figure in whom most Argentinians have great faith and to whom they turn in times of need, also has his own representation—but in the style of Goku!

Drawing an analogy between the name of this Simpsons character and that of the cumbia band, we have Rafa-ga, imitating the band’s singer with his characteristic long hair—though he currently wears it short—but in the videos for his catchiest songs, he appears just like this character. It’s a stroke of luck to be represented as one of the characters from this hit TV series, although perhaps the original Rafa doesn’t look quite so good in his everyday appearance.

These two types of vendors are usually found in open spaces, selling food to people in squares, parks and on beaches. However, during the summer of 2025, a fight broke out between two vendors that ended up going viral, not only because of the aggression, but also because they were fighting over a trading territory that doesn’t really belong to either of them. The incident was also immortalised by these figurines, which, as well as being creative and original, serve as a reminder of Argentine culture that many others choose to ignore.
