The language of music is universal, and through a melody we can express what we feel: love and heartbreak, loneliness, friendship, and the pain of distance. It is also poetry transformed into whispers that, when we hear them, make us feel happy and stir our souls. Some people are introverted and unable to convey their feelings, so they turn to a song as a means of expressing everything they hold inside.
Sometimes the words don’t come, the soul is unsettled, and the heart races. Just imagine! Think of a young person’s uncertainty: “Does he/she love me or not?” Or plucking the petals off daisies—OMG! They’d ruin the gardens, and when they were face-to-face with the one they loved, they’d tremble and stutter. Back when I was a teenager, they’d swear their love with a whisper in the ear—with no chance of anything happening—while they danced and sang, “Cha la la, aniriu.” However, I have friends who, thanks to a song, have stable homes, with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Who was to blame?
Well, none other than a song and a word whispered in the ear. Oh la la. Believe it or not, many, many years ago, communication was nonexistent or very slow. They used smoke signals, carrier pigeons, donkeys, and other methods. Then came letters and the telegraph to facilitate communication between lovers. Mary Bellis published an article on www.thoughtco.com titled “History of the Mail and the Postal System,” in which she notes that modern mail services:
“In 1653, the Frenchman Jean-Jacques Renouard de Villayer (1607–1691) established a postal system in Paris. He installed mailboxes and delivered the letters deposited in them if pre-stamped envelopes—which he sold himself—were used…” For more information, visit here
In Venezuela, on June 22, 1832, José Antonio Páez established the formal framework, and post offices were set up in the major ports. However, it is worth noting that the Guipuzcoana Company had already begun providing maritime services from 1728 to 1778. During the war of independence, a method known as “santo y seña” was used to prevent royalists from intercepting messages. Communications evolved in this way, and with the advent of the telephone, many misunderstandings were resolved.
Today, social media and smartphones allow for live, real-time communication, my #Music friends. So don’t believe every rumor; if someone doesn’t reply to your message or answer your call, find someone else who will. Period. I’m sharing this background so you realize that communication wasn’t as easy back then as it is today. The world has changed, but music remains a way to fall in love. That never goes out of style.
Throughout the history of music, there have been many songs—ballads from yesterday and today, “espikin panish”—that emerged, became huge hits, and are still played today. All over the world, internationally renowned bands, duos, groups, and solo artists have emerged. This Tuesday, I’ll take a trip in my time machine to the Motherland, Spain—the land of flamenco and great poets such as Antonio Machado, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, and Federico García Lorca, among others.
Friends of #Music, the purpose of this trip down memory lane is to bring back four Spanish singers to share with @ablaze and #ThreeTuneTuesday. These artists rose to fame in the 1960s and their music still resonates in the memories of today’s grandparents. They are Rafael, Nino Bravo, Joan Manuel Serrat, and Camilo Sesto. I know some of you will be crying your eyes out, as we say in Venezuela. So grab your handkerchief to wipe away those tears.

El lenguaje de la música es universal y a través de una melodía se puede expresar lo que se siente: el amor y el despecho, la soledad, la amistad, el dolor de la distancia. También es poesía convertida en susurros que, al oírlas, nos hace sentir felices y conmueve el alma. Algunos seres humanos son introvertidos e incapaces de transmitir sus sentimientos y el medio que utilizan es una canción y con ello expresan todo lo que llevan internamente.
A veces las palabras no fluyen, el alma se altera y el corazón se agita. ¡Imagínense! Ustedes la duda de un joven: me quiere o no me quiere, o deshojan margaritas, ¡OMG! Destrozaban los jardines y, cuando tenían a la persona amada de frente, temblaban y tartamudeaban. En mi época de adolescente se juraban amor con un susurro al oído sin chance a nada y mientras bailaban y decían. “Cha la la, aniriu”. Sin embargo, tengo amigos que, gracias a una canción, tienen hogares estables, con nietos y bisnietos.
¿Quién fue el culpables?
Pues nada más y nada menos que una canción y una palabra susurrada al oído. Oh la la. Aunque no lo crean ustedes, hace muchos, pero muchos años, la comunicación era nula o muy tardía. Utilizaron señales de humo, palomas mensajeras, burros, entre otros. Luego llegaron las cartas y el telégrafo para facilitar la conexión de los enamorados. Mary Bellis publicó un artículo en www.thoughtco.com, titulado: “Historia del correo y del sistema postal”, donde indica que los correos modernos:
“En 1653, el francés Jean-Jacques Renouard de Villayer (1607-1691) estableció un sistema postal en París. Instaló buzones y entregaba las cartas depositadas en ellos si se utilizaban los sobres prefranqueados que él mismo vendía…” Para más información visite aquí
En Venezuela, el 22 de junio de 1832, José Antonio Páez establece la formalidad y se instalan las oficinas de correos en los puertos principales. Sin embargo, cabe destacar que ya la compañía Guipuzcoana, desde 1728 a 1778, había iniciado los servicios marítimos. Durante la independencia, el método que se conocía como “santo y seña”, para evitar que los realistas interceptaran las misivas. Así fueron evolucionando las comunicaciones y, con el teléfono, se fueron solucionando muchos malentendidos.
Actualmente, las redes sociales y celulares inteligentes permiten las comunicaciones en vivo y directo, amigas de #Music. Así que no crea en pajarito preñao; si no le contestan un mensaje o una llamada, búsquese a otro que sí la pueda atender. Punto y final. Hago esta introducción para que se den cuenta de que no era fácil comunicarse como en la actualidad. El mundo ha cambiado, pero sigue siendo la música un medio para enamorarse. Esto no pasa de moda.
En la historia de la música hay muchas canciones del tipo baladas de ayer y hoy, “espikin panish”, que aparecieron y se convirtieron en grandes éxitos y hoy siguen sonando. En todo el mundo aparecieron bandas, dúos, grupos y solistas de renombre internacional. Este martes haré un viaje en mi máquina del tiempo a la Madre Patria, España, la del flamenco y de grandes poetas como Antonio Machado, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, Federico García Lorca, entre otros.
Amigos de #Music la finalidad de este viaje en el tiempo es traer a cuatro cantantes españoles para compartir con @ablaze y #ThreeTuneTuesday. Estos se impusieron entre los años 1960 y que todavía suenan en la memoria de los abuelitos de hoy en día. Ellos son Rafael, Nino Bravo, Joan Manuel Serrat y Camilo Sesto. Sé que algunas llorarán a “moco tendido”, como decimos los venezolanos. Así que tomen su pañuelito para limpiarse las lágrimas.

Friends of #Music, sometimes we forget the simple things in life and focus only on complaining and crying over “spilled milk.” I don’t think that’s the point of reflecting on and remembering what we’ve experienced, because we shouldn’t be ashamed of what we did or the decisions we made. In my case, it gives me strength, because I get to relive those beautiful moments with my loved ones: family and friends. After all, the only thing we take with us when we leave this physical world is what we’ve experienced.
The moments we’ve shared, the connections, and the friendships that have endured over time—even when we’re far apart—are a fundamental part of our lives. If we have to cry, let’s do it together, and if we have to laugh, let our laughter be heard all the way on Mars. La Paraulataa Oriental and her buddy La Pajara Pinta say: “Crank it up, DJ!” to kick off our tour of Spain.

It was 1960 when Raphael began his artistic career; he was born under the sign of Taurus, a down-to-earth man. He began singing as a child, at just nine years old. In 1962, he participated in a festival, and from that day on, he hit the ground running and was here to stay—and so began his artistic career. Together with Manuel Alejandro, he has turned every song into an international hit. Raphael is known for his movements and expressions, which make his style unique.
His greatest hits: “Llorona,” “En carne viva,” “El Tamborilero,” “Como yo te amo,” and “Yo soy aquel.” I love all his songs; he’s one of my favorite singers—and how could he not be, when my mom loved him and would sing at the top of her lungs, “Como yo te amo…” I grew up listening to his songs—he’s the greatest in Hispanic music. There’s a friend of mine on #Hive who also loves Raphael, so I chose the song “Yo soy aquel,” since it’s her favorite. This one’s for you, my friend @angelica7. It was released in 1966 on an album of the same name.

Hearing the person you love say “I love you” is one of the most beautiful moments, and it stays with you forever. That’s why I think it’s so hard to get over heartbreak.
Nino Bravo dedicated his songs to love, but also to freedom. He started at a very young age. Among his hits: “Libre,” “América,” “Es el viento,” “Te quiero, te quiero,” “Nohela,” “Cartas amarillas,” “Un beso y una flor,” and others. I chose “Cartas amarillas.” It’s a song about sad memories of a happy past—something that couldn’t be. I dedicate it to the loves I left behind along the way.

Time stands still for someone who has loved, and love remains—and it’s very hard to get over it.
Joan Manuel Serrat began his career in 1964. Among his hits are “Cantares,” “Tu nombre me sabe a yerba,” “Mediterráneo,” and others. Here’s “Penelope,” one of my favorites. It was released in 1972 on the album La Paloma.

My little gem today is about the Spanish singer Camilo Sesto; among his hits are: “Perdóname,” “¿Quieres ser mi amante?,” “Todo por nada,” “Algo más,” “Jamás,” “Piel de ángel,” and others. His first album, released in 1972 and titled “Algo de mí,” was a huge hit.

Amigos de #Music, a veces olvidamos las cosas elementales de la vida y nos enfocamos solamente en quejarnos y llorar por la “leche derramada”. Creo que esa no es la idea de evocar y recordar lo que hemos vivido, pues no hay que avergonzarse por lo que hicimos ni por las decisiones que tomamos. En mi caso, me fortalece, pues vuelvo a disfrutar de esos lindos momentos con mis seres queridos: familia y amigos. Pues, lo único que nos llevamos cuando partimos del plano físico es lo que vivimos.
Los momentos vividos, las conexiones y las amistades que han perdurado en el tiempo, aun cuando se está lejos, son parte fundamental de nuestra vida. Si tenemos que llorar, hagámoslo en dúo, y si hay que reír, que se escuchen las risas en el planeta Marte. La Paraulataa Oriental y su amigui La Pajara Pinta dicen: ¡Suéltala, DJ! Corría el año 1960 cuando inició su carrera artística Raphael; nació bajo el signo de Tauro, hombre con los pies en la tierra. Desde niño, con apenas nueve años, comenzó a cantar. En el año 1962 participa en un festival y a partir de este día entra con el pie derecho para quedarse, y así comienza su carrera artística. Con Manuel Alejandro ha hecho de cada tema un éxito internacional. Raphael se ha caracterizado por sus movimientos y expresiones que hacen único su estilo.
Sus grandes éxitos: “Llorona”, “En carne viva”, “El Tamborilero”, “Como yo te amo” y “Yo soy aquel”. A mí me gustan todas sus canciones; es uno de mis cantantes preferidos, y cómo no serlo, si Mami lo amaba y a todo pulmón cantaba: “Como yo te amo…”. Crecí escuchando sus canciones, el más grande de la música hispana. Por ahí está una amiguita en #Hive que también ama a Raphael y escogí la canción “Yo soy aquel”, pues es su preferida. Para ti, amiga @angelica7. Fue lanzada en el año 1966 en un álbum del mismo nombre.

Escuchar a la persona que se ama decir:”Amor”, es una de los momentos más lindo y quedan en la memoria. Por eso creo están difícil de superar el desengaño.
Nino Bravo dedico sus canciones al amor pero también a la libertad . Inició desde muy joven. Entre sus éxitos: Libre, América, "Es el viento", "Te quiero, te quiero", "Nohela", "Cartas amarillas", "Un beso y una flor", entre otras. Escogí “Cartas amarillas”. Una canción que habla de recuerdos tristes de un pasado feliz. Algo que no pudo ser. Se la dedico a mis amores que dejé en el camino.

Camilo Sesto era un romántico; cuando interpretaba sus canciones, lo hacía con mucha pasión. Todas sus canciones son éxitos de ayer y de hoy. Sobre todo marcaron un periodo muy bonito de la música y baladas al romance y al amor.
Human beings have always lived to love and be happy. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. But everything passes, and it’s worth loving. Nothing is perfect, especially when it comes to love. Then come the tears and the back-and-forth arguments. Even so, love is love, and feeling that beautiful emotion and being struck by Cupid’s arrow is the best thing in life. So enjoy it while it lasts, and then let it go once it’s over or has to end.
