Nomad Hive - My experience staying at a hostel in the City of Buenos Aires: essential for enjoying its nightlife. / Mi experiencia en un hostel de Ciudad de Buenos Aires: necesaria para disfrutar de su vida nocturna. 😃❤️

The first time I went to the City of Buenos Aires at night, I was 16 years old, and it became one of those unforgettable teenage experiences. A group of friends and I had gotten together to go dancing at a club where we spent the entire night, and the next morning around 7 AM, we returned home by public transportation, traveling the 30 km that separated us from our neighborhood. After that, nights out like those happened countless times, until reaching the present day, now that I’m over 30 and can no longer handle outings that long because I get sleepy. Of course, I still visit the city at night, but I found a much more comfortable way to do it 😃.

La primera vez que fui a la Ciudad de Buenos Aires de noche tenía 16 años y fue toda una experiencia adolescente memorable. Nos habíamos juntado con un grupo de amigos para ir a bailar un club en el que pasamos toda la noche, y volvimos al otro día en transporte público alrededor de las 7 AM, haciendo el viaje de 30 km que nos separaba de casa. Después, salidas como esas se repitieron innumerables veces, hasta llegar al día de hoy, que tengo +30 y ya no aguanto una salida tan larga como esas porque me da sueño. Por supuesto que sigo visitando la ciudad de noche, pero encontré una forma más cómoda para hacerlo 😃.

Of course, there’s nightlife where I live too, but nothing compares to going to THE city. There, the variety of things to do is always much greater, so whenever there’s an interesting event, I make sure not to miss it. The problem is that, living 30 km south of the city, public transportation stops running very early, and getting back home always turns into an odyssey. Until one day, while visiting some traveler friends, it occurred to me that I could simply stay at the same hostel as them — after all, this kind of accommodation was nothing new to me.

Por supuesto que donde yo vivo también hay vida nocturna, pero nada se compara con ir a LA ciudad. Ahí, la oferta de cosas para hacer siempre es muchísimo más variada, por lo que cada vez que hay un evento interesante, no me lo pierdo. El asunto es que, viviendo a 30 km al sur de la ciudad, el transporte público termina muy temprano, y tener que volver a casa siempre resulta una odisea. Hasta que un día, cuando estaba visitando a algunos amigos viajeros, se me ocurrió que podía hospedarme en el mismo hostel que ellos: después de todo, este tipo de alojamientos no era nada nuevo para mí.

My original idea was just to spend the afternoon there, but since the outing had become so entertaining, the hours went by almost without us noticing. Later on, the group wanted to go out for dinner together, and that’s when the idea of their hostel came up. Now that I’m working and my outings come with a different budget, the idea of spending the night in the city didn’t seem bad at all. Besides, they took me to their accommodation and the night only cost $15, which was actually cheaper than taking an Uber back home. It was an absolute yes from every angle.

Mi idea original era solo ir a pasar la tarde, pero como el paseo se había vuelto tan entretenido, las horas pasaron casi sin darnos cuenta. Más tarde, los chicos tenían la idea de ir a cenar juntos, entonces ahí surgió la idea de su hostel. Ahora que trabajo y mis salidas tienen otro presupuesto, la idea de pasar la noche en la ciudad no me pareció tan mala. Además, ellos me llevaron a su hospedaje y la noche solo costaba $15, un precio que incluso era más económico que un Uber hasta mi casa. Fue un absoluto sí por todos lados.

During all the trips I made, 90% of the time I stayed in places like this. In case you don’t know what a hostel is, it’s a type of budget accommodation, generally aimed at solo travelers, where everything is shared. Guests share the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and recreational spaces. Of course, there are hostels that offer private double rooms with private bathrooms, but in their simplest and cheapest version, everything is shared. They can cost several times less than a hotel, which is why they are such a popular choice among backpackers traveling on a low budget.

Durante todos los viajes que hice, el 90% de las veces me hospedé en este tipo de lugares. Por si no sabes lo que es un hostel, se trata de un tipo de alojamiento económico, generalmente para viajeros solitarios, en donde todo es compartido. Se comparte habitación, baño, cocina y espacios de recreación. Por supuesto hay hosteles que ofrecen habitaciones dobles privadas con baño privado, pero en su versión más sencilla y barata, todo se comparte. En precio puede valer varias veces menos que un hotel, y es por eso que es tan elegido por mochileros con bajo presupuesto.

However, it’s not all about saving money at a hostel. Since these places are mostly chosen by solo travelers, they naturally end up becoming spaces with a lot of social activity. Most of the friends I made during my travels were people I met in hostels (in fact, the friends I was visiting at that moment were people I had met at a hostel in Paraguay), so if you enjoy cultural exchanges, this is definitely the right place for you.

Sin embargo, no todo pasa por el dinero en el hostel. Al ser un lugar elegido en su mayoría por viajeros solitarios, siempre se termina transformando en un espacio con mucha actividad social. La mayoría de los amigos que hice en mis viajes los conocí en hosteles (de hecho, a los que estaba visitando en ese momento los conocí en un hostel de Paraguay), así que si te gustan los intercambios culturales, este es el lugar indicado.

In the end, my Saturday in the city turned into a full weekend over there. Once I knew I had a safe bed to stay the night, I was able to continue enjoying my outing peacefully and, of course, go out to dinner with my traveler friends, which was exactly what I wanted to stay for. Ever since I discovered how convenient it is to rent a hostel in the city, I now do it every time I want to attend an event there that involves staying out late. The place in the photos is called Parla Hostel and it’s located very close to the tourist area, so I definitely recommend it for your trips to the City of Buenos Aires, and I hope your experience there is as good as mine was ❤️.

Al final, mi sábado en la ciudad se terminó transformando en un fin de semana completo por aquellos lados. Una vez que supe que tenía una cama segura para quedarme a dormir, pude continuar con mi paseo tranquila, y por supuesto ir a cenar con mis amigos viajeros, que es lo que quería quedarme a hacer. Desde que descubrí lo cómodo que es rentarme un hostel en la ciudad, ahora lo hago cada vez que quiero ir a algún evento allá que implique quedarse hasta tarde. El lugar de las fotos se llama Parla Hostel y está ubicado muy cerca de la zona turística, por lo que lo recomiendo en sus viajes por la Ciudad de Buenos Aires y espero que su experiencia ahí sea tan buena como lo fue la mía ❤️.
