Argentina - Walking through Caminito in La Boca: my first Worldmappin sticker in Buenos Aires. / Paseando por Caminito en La Boca: mi primer sticker de Worldmappin en Buenos Aires. 😃❤️

Ever since I was given the Worldmappin stickers in November 2024, I had been waiting for the right moment to place one somewhere in Buenos Aires. The first stickers were placed in Ushuaia, then I left some in Chile, and later in the northern provinces of Argentina, but until now I had not had the opportunity to place one close to home. I wanted to leave our mark somewhere special and somewhere new to me, and I found the perfect occasion when I decided to place one in Caminito, La Boca 😃.

Desde que me regalaron los stickers de Worldmappin en noviembre de 2024, estuve esperando que llegara el momento justo para pegar alguno en Buenos Aires. Los primeros stickers los pegué en Ushuaia, luego dejé algunos en Chile y más tarde en las provincias del norte de Argentina, pero hasta el momento no había tenido la oportunidad de pegar alguno cerca de mi casa. Quería dejar nuestra huella en algún lugar especial y que sea nuevo para mí, y encontré la ocasión perfecta cuando decidí ir a pegar uno en Caminito, La Boca 😃.

I had always known that Caminito in La Boca was one of the favorite spots for tourists, but I only got to visit it a few months ago. There are still many places around the City of Buenos Aires that I have not seen yet, but that I slowly want to discover. I did not really know exactly where Caminito was located, but after taking a bus that dropped us off right there, I realized that in the end it was not that far from the city center.

Siempre supe que Caminito en La Boca era uno de los lugares preferidos por los turistas, pero yo lo conocí recién hace algunos meses atrás. Hay muchos lugares en los alrededores de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires que todavía no conozco, pero que lentamente quiero ir descubriendo. No tenía mucha idea de donde se ubicaba exactamente Caminito, pero después de tomar un bus que nos dejó exactamente ahí, me di cuenta de que al final no era tan lejos del centro de la ciudad.

The tourist epicenter of La Boca is located right in front of the river, and it is almost impossible to get lost when arriving there. I suppose that, just like during the time of our visit, this area is crowded with people all the time. “Caminito,” as its name suggests, is precisely a little walkway (about one block long) surrounded by movement, music, and good energy. The classic postcard view is the colorful corner where there is now an alfajor shop, but it is also possible to walk around the surrounding area in search of even more things to see.

El epicentro turístico de La Boca se encuentra justo frente al río, y es casi imposible perderse llegando ahí. Supongo que, al igual que al momento de nuestra visita, esta zona está llena de gente todo el tiempo. "Caminito", como su nombre lo indica, se trata precisamente de un pequeño camino (una cuadra) rodeado de movimiento, música y buena energía. La postal típica es la esquina colorida en la que ahora hay una tienda de alfajores, pero también es posible recorrer los alrededores en busca de más cosas para ver.

This whole area is famous for its beautiful colors and because it is a place where you can find things considered typically Argentine: tango, football, and local food. The reason for this place’s fame is that this area was where the first immigrants settled and began shaping the city. The humblest part of society created the famous “conventillos” here, communal houses with many living spaces where several families lived together at the same time. To this day, many of these conventillos have been transformed for commercial and tourist purposes, while many others are still used as homes by local residents.

Toda esta zona es famosa por sus hermosos colores y porque es un punto en donde se podrían encontrar cosas "típicas" de Argentina: tango, futbol y comida local. El por qué de la fama de este lugar se debe a que en esta zona fue donde se instalaron los primeros inmigrantes que empezaron a dar forma a la ciudad. La parte más humilde de la sociedad formó acá los famosos "conventillos", casas comunitarias con muchos espacios habitacionales en donde convivían varias familias al mismo tiempo. Al día de hoy, muchos de estos conventillos fueron transformados con fines comerciales y turísticos, pero otros tantos siguen funcionando como viviendas para la gente local.

Very close to the most touristy area, it is possible to find an old conventillo transformed into a sort of shopping center. It is interesting to walk into places like this and realize that each one of these shops once served as shelter for a newly arrived family. Nowadays, everything is decorated in a cheerful way, turning the place into a picturesque and perfect setting for taking lots of photos. Of course, my sisters, who joined me on this outing, happily took part in the photo session.

Muy cerca de la zona más turística es posible encontrar un antiguo conventillo transformado en una especie de centro comercial. Es interesante poder entrar a este tipo lugares y darse cuenta de que cada uno de estos locales en algún momento funcionó como albergue para una familia recién llegada. Hoy en día está todo decorado de forma alegre, convirtiéndose en un espacio pintoresco y genial para unas cuantas fotos. Por supuesto, mis hermanas, quienes me acompañaron en este paseo, se prestaron para la sesión fotográfica.

Our outing continued for a few more blocks, where we saw all kinds of souvenir shops and many different places to have lunch. Of course, we stopped for a meal because after walking around for quite a while, the smell from the grills had already become too tempting. We ended up eating a “choripán,” a chorizo sandwich, served with fries, which cost us around $9. Friends, this price is extremely high for a dish like this, since closer to my home I could get it for less than $5. But considering the touristy area we were in and the tango show we got to watch, I think it was not that bad after all.

Nuestro paseo se extendió por unas cuadras más allá, en donde vimos todo tipo de tiendas de souvenirs y muchas opciones para almorzar. Por supuesto paramos un momento a tener nuestro almuerzo, porque después de un buen rato caminando, el olor a las parrillas ya era muy tentador. Terminamos comiendo un "choripan", un sandwich de chorizo, acompañado de unas papas fritas, que pagamos unos $9. Amigos, este precio es super elevado para un plato de este estilo, ya que más cerca de mi casa lo podría conseguir por menos de $5, pero considerando la zona turística en la que estábamos y el show de tango qur vimos, creo que no estuvo tan mal.

Once we had full stomachs, it was time to do what we had come there for: place my Worldmappin sticker. Finding a suitable spot was a bit difficult because there really was not much space to stick anything. My sister suggested a spot on a pole near the iconic Caminito postcard view, and I agreed, although with some doubts. I am pretty sure that poor pole gets cleaned regularly because of the huge number of tourists leaving stickers there, but I hope ours lasted at least a few days. Otherwise, I will have to come back and place it somewhere even better 😅.

Una vez que tuvimos la panza llena, fue momento de hacer lo que habíamos ido a hacer: pegar mi sticker de Worldmappin. Encontrar un lugar adecuado fue un poco difícil, porque en realidad no había mucho lugar como para pegar algo. Mi hermana sugirió un lugar en un poste cerca de la típica postal de Caminito, y accedí, aunque con un poco de dudas. Estoy segura de que a ese pobre poste lo limpian regularmente por la gran cantidad de turistas que dejan stickers ahí, pero espero que al menos haya durado unos días De lo contrario, voy a tener que volver a pegarlo en un lugar todavía mejor 😅.

Spending the afternoon in Caminito brought back a little of what it feels like to be a tourist, but with the added bonus of being fairly close to home. Buenos Aires is full of amazing places, and I hope to keep discovering more of them whenever I have the energy and desire to travel into the city. Now that I have discovered that staying overnight in hostels around the city makes everything much easier, I hope I can visit more often and enjoy many great weekends exploring. And along the way, I will place as many Worldmappin stickers as necessary 😅.

Haber pasado la tarde en Caminito me devolvió un poco el recuerdo de lo que es ser turista, pero con el plus de estar bastante cerca de tu casa. Buenos Aires está lleno de lugares geniales y espero poder ir conociendo algunos más a medida que tenga ganas y energía como para viajar hasta la ciudad. Ahora que descubrí que pasando la noche en hosteles de la ciudad todo es mucho más fácil, espero poder ir más seguido y tener buenos fines de semana de paseo. Y en el camino voy a pegar todos los stickers de Worldmappin que sean necesarios 😅.
