Argentina - The Economic Little Train of Santa Ana, an open-air museum in the interior of Corrientes. / El Trencito Económico de Santa Ana, un museo al aire libre en el interior de Corrientes. 😃❤️

Another stop we made during our trip through the interior of Corrientes was the one that allowed us to visit the Economic Little Train of Santa Ana. This small town, 20 km from the center of Corrientes, was very quiet but had several interesting things to see. Gabi and Luis’s uncle was kind enough to take us around in his car, and together we were able to spend a lovely afternoon exploring a bit beyond the city. Having the chance to take these little getaways always makes the trip even more special 😃.

Otra de las paradas que hicimos durante nuestro recorrido por el interior de Corrientes fue la que nos permitió conocer el Trencito Económico de Santa Ana. Este pequeño pueblo a 20 km del centro de Corrientes era muy tranquilo, pero tenía varias cosas interesantes para ver. El tío de Gabi y Luis fue muy amable llevándonos a pasear en su auto, y juntos pudimos pasar una buena tarde recorriendo un poco más allá de la ciudad. Contar con la posibilidad de hacer estas pequeñas escapadas siempre vuelven más especial el viaje 😃.

The Economic Little Train of Santa Ana is an old railway that, in 1890, operated as a connection between inland towns and the city center, with the goal of improving the transport of sugar. It also served as passenger transport, enhancing mobility for people living in the cities of Corrientes, San Luis del Palmar, San Cosme, Mburucuyá, General Paz, and Lomas de Vallejos. It also helped boost the region’s economic development and urban settlement. At that time, the railway network in Argentina was very extensive, managing to connect long distances that gave rise to many new towns. Corrientes was no exception.

El Trencito Económico de Santa Ana se trata de un antiguo ferrocarril que en en 1890 funcionó como unión entre los pueblos del interior con el centro de la ciudad, con el objetivo de mejorar el transporte de azúcar. Además, sirvió como transporte de pasajeros, mejorando la movilidad de la gente que vivía en la ciudad de Corrientes, San Luis del Palmar, San Cosme, Mburucuyá, General Paz y Lomas de Vallejos. También facilitó el desarrollo económico de la región y el asentamiento urbano. Para esa época, la red de ferrocarriles en Argentina era muy grande, logrando conectar grandes distancias que dieron origen a un montón de pueblos nuevos. Corrientes no fue la excepción.

According to the internet, the railway reached about 180 km in length and operated until 1969, when the reduction of railway networks began in our country. During its active period, the train transported both cargo and passengers, divided into first and second class, with tickets costing 12 and 8 pesos (between $0.03 and $0.04). Today, a locomotive and some carriages can be seen at this station, functioning as an open-air museum. From it, you can still see freight cars and passenger carriages, with the possibility of climbing aboard and taking some photos.

Según internet, el tren llegó a tener unos 180 km, que funcionaron hasta 1969 cuando empezó la reducción de redes de ferrocarriles en nuestro país. Durante su periodo activo, el tren transportaba cargas y pasajeros, divididos en primera y segunda clase, por un boleto que costaba 12 y 8 pesos (entre $0,03 y $0,04). Actualmente, se puede ver una locomotora y algunos vagones en esta estación, funcionando como un museo al aire libre. De él, todavía se pueden ver vagones de carga y vagones de pasajeros, con la posibilidad de subirse y tomarse algunas fotos.

What I liked most about this small train was how well preserved it was, especially considering it has free access for everyone. Not only could you explore it from the outside, but you could also climb onto the locomotive and sit in the seats, just like a real traveler from that time. In addition, the train was surrounded by informative signs that told part of its history, so visitors could learn more about it. It was a very enriching and exploratory visit, set in a beautiful spot right in front of another of the town’s squares.

Lo que más me gustó de este pequeño tren es lo bien conservado que estaba para estar con entrada libre a todo el mundo. No solo era posible explorarlo por fuera, sino también podías subirte a la locomotora y también sentarte en los asientos, como un verdadero viajero de la época. Además, el tren estaba rodeado de cartelería explicativa que contaba un poco la historia de este tren, como para que los visitantes se informen. Fue una visita muy productiva y explorativa, además de estar un lugar hermoso frente a otra de las plazas del pueblo.

On every trip, I like having those moments that weren’t so carefully planned, because they always lead to great anecdotes. Our stop to see the Economic Train was brief but educational. Gabi and Luis’s uncle was kind enough to take us to this second stop within the town of Santa Ana so we could continue exploring the surroundings. It was still very early and we had more of the day ahead of us, so a quick stop to stretch our legs was just what we needed. There was still much more left to explore ❤️.

En cada paseo me gusta que exista esta parte que no tenía tan planeada, porque de ellas siempre surgen buenas anécdotas. Nuestra parada para ver el Tren Económico fue breve pero educativa. El tío de Gabi y Luis fue muy amable como para llevarnos hasta esta segunda parada dentro del pueblo de Santa Ana, para poder seguir explorando los alrededores. Todavía era muy temprano y teníamos un poco más de paseo por delante, así que una parada para estirar las piernas vino bien. Todavía quedaba mucho más para explorar ❤️.
