28 September, 2026 Freewriters Daily Writing Prompt Day 3240 | Prompt: bitch (bruja)

Source...
Saturday morning at the Foster's home. Outside, the birds chirped loudly. Sounds of mowers could be heard from lawn maintenance crews busily manicured yards. The aroma of bacon waffled through the house, together with sausages, eggs, homemade pancakes, and coffee.
Upstairs, noise swirled from the headphones so loud that Kendrick didn't hear the door to his bedroom jerk violently open. Only when the headphones were ripped from around his head did he frown.
"What's wrong with you almost tearing my head off," Kendrick hissed at his father, Malcolm.
Without a good morning, with venom in his eyes, Malcolm started.
"You're so smart that you didn't notice the baby monitor was on. Your mother relayed information to me that is deeply disturbing. I understand you called your mother a "bitch" because she asked you to check on your baby sister."
Caught off guard, Kendrick hesitated, then stood inches away from the height of his six-foot father.
Whether it was him believing that his status on the basketball team lent him courage, or the fact that he could look his father in the eye, he stated boldly, using the only excuse he could think of. "I was already late for practice. She wasn't doing anything."
"Son, first, let me tell you something. Your mother begged me to go easy on you. We're trying this new guide called "gentle parenting". I, for one, know that in some cases, it's a waste of time. But I promised to try. I see now that I'm going to have to toss that and go old school on your disrespectful ass."
Kendrick wondered where his father was going with that introduction, so he didn't respond, already exposed by the monitor.
"I doubt you actually know the definition of the word "bitch". Let me enlighten you. A "bitch" is any female dog or canine. Now, are you actually calling your mother a dog? If so, speak up immediately so I can have a clear understanding of the situation I'm about to address on her behalf," Malcolm stated calmly, hoping his son would respond in kind.
Kendrick stood silent, with one hand cupping the elbow of the other, frequently glancing at his smartwatch as though impatient.
"Am I keeping you from something more important than a lesson I'm trying to to enlighten you about? Or, are you that disinterested in what I'm trying to instill into your thick head?"
Again, Kendrick kept silent, except to roll his eyes.
"Oh no you didn't roll your eyes while I'm talking to you!" Malcolm hissed, then moved in closer, his shoulders heaving heavily.
Kendrick stepped back. He knew.
"Since you referred to your mother as a "bitch", in the derogatory slang term, then, as her son, you are essentially labeling yourself as a "son of a bitch". Is that correct what you want to be referred to as by your friends and the world"
Kendrick continued to remain silent. He'd absolutely no comeback for that question.
"I can't hear you. Speak up."
"No," Kendrick simply replied, his head down.
"No what?"
"No, Sir." He lifted his head hearing the dire tone of his father's voice.
"Now, we're getting somewhere. All men on this Earth springs forth from a female. A woman is to be respected, upheld, revered, and supported from the day she is born until the day she dies."
Kendrick's mother timidly opened the door and stepped in. Glancing from one to the other, she quickly assessed the situation. Immediately, she sensed it wasn't going to be a pleasant outcome for her son.
"I suggest dear that you leave if you don't want to see the outcome for the boy who called you a "bitch".
At that moment, the baby monitor activated. Monique backed out the door.

Malcolm pivoted toward his son. This was his last attempt to reason.
"Now, my advice to you son is that as long you live under my roof, keep words out of your vocabulary that you don't know the meaning of. Else, you'll keep getting the same response from me."
"Whatever!" slid out of the side of Kendrick's mouth, low enough that he thought his father didn't hear.
"You've got to be on drugs to speak and act this way toward your mother and me.
"Y'all know I don't do drugs. Why you stressing me out about nothing. All my classmates talk this way. No big deal. They say that if a female acts and dresses a certain way, they deserve to be called out."
Kendrick rushed to spit out the next sentence that sealed his fate.
"My friend told me that kids can report their parents if they feel they are abused. It's easy to do."
"And this is easy to do. Let me tell you something else. I don't mind in the least serving time for it. When your friends ask what happened, tell them you had an encounter with reality. If you think you're man enough to face it, go ahead and make my day!"
Kendrick started to speak with a smug countenance.
Without another word, the blow that sent him reeling came from left field so quickly that he didn't see it coming. He'd no time to locate an object to brace himself against.
Slowly, Kendrick pulled himself up from the floor, a dazed look of bewilderment crossing his face. Sitting on the side of the bed, he shook off the cobwebs.
His focus returned somewhat. He stared out his bedroom window. He wished he could return to this morning when he woke to birds chirping; the aroma of bacon, sausage, and coffee rising from downstairs where his loving mother was preparing breakfast, and all was well.
He reached over and activated the baby monitor, then politely requested his mother come to his room immediately.
He'd something to apologize for.

Ella no estaba haciendo nada».
«No te oigo.
«¿No qué?»
«No, señor».
