[ENG-SPN] The Alchemist of Cudillero and the Shadow of Frassinelli / El alquimista de Cudillero y la sombra de Frassinelli

Mario Roso de Luna, in his colossal, hermetic work disguised as an adventure novel, in which he himself becomes one of the main protagonists, ‘The Treasure of the Lakes of Somiedo’, recounts that he traveled with Count Antonín de Miranda to the picturesque fishing village of Cudillero in search of that mysterious character whom the locals of the Picos de Europa region had nicknamed ‘the German of Corao’.

Although, upon arriving in Cudillero, they had the opportunity to meet, in the remarkable figure of the local pharmacist, a true master alchemist, somewhat similar to the enigmatic Frenchman Fulcanelli, who, around that time and at the beginning of the 20th century, shook world public opinion with his hermetic texts related to alchemy and the mystery of medieval cathedrals, this was not the case with the elusive Frassinelli. It is said that, like Tolkien's characters Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, he embarked on a ship—not an elven one, like them, but a Templar one—whose sails bore the colors of the Order's famous standard or Beauceant: black and white.

The curious and intriguing aspect of this story is that Frassinelli died in Corao and was buried in the small cemetery next to the Romanesque church of Santa Eulalia de Abamia. Later, his remains were exhumed and moved inside this ancient 12th-century church, alongside the remains of the first kings of the Asturian monarchy, Don Pelayo and his wife Gaudiosa. These are just some of the clues and legends that help you experience the adventure of exploring such a charismatic and spectacular region as the Principality of Asturias in a new way.

Refiere Mario Roso de Luna, en esa colosal obra hermética disfrazada de novela de aventuras, donde él mismo se incorpora a la trama como uno de los principales protagonistas, ‘El tesoro de los lagos de Somiedo’, que se desplazó en compañía del conde Antonín de Miranda hasta el pintoresco pueblecito pesquero de Cudillero en busca de ese misterioso personaje al que los vecinos del entorno de los Picos de Europa habían adoptado con el sobrenombre de ‘el alemán de Corao’.

Si bien, una vez llegados a Cudillero, tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer, en la notable figura del farmacéutico del lugar, a un verdadero maestro alquimista, similar, de alguna manera, al enigmático Fulcanelli francés, que, más o menos por esa época y comienzos del siglo XX convulsionó a la opinión pública mundial con sus textos herméticos relacionados con la Alquimia y el misterio de las catedrales del Medievo, no ocurrió así con el escurridizo Frassinelli, del que se dice, que, al igual que los personajes de Tolkien, Bilbo y Frodo Bolsón, embarcó en una nave, no elfa, como ellos, pero sí templaria, cuyas velas lucían los colores del famoso estandarte o Beauceant de la Orden: blanco y negro.

Lo curioso y a la vez intrigante del tema, es que Frassinelli falleció en Corao y fue enterrado en el pequeño cementerio aledaño a la iglesia románica de Santa Eulalia de Abamia, aunque posteriormente sus restos exhumados y trasladados al interior de esta arcana iglesia del siglo XII, junto a los restos de los primeros reyes de la monarquía asturiana, Don Pelayo y su esposa Gaudiosa. Claves y leyendas que ayudan a vivir de otra manera la aventura que siempre supone adentrarse por un territorio tan carismático y espectacular, como el Principado de Asturias.
