Your post says you are in Ghana, and according to this article, fruit bats are common there. An undeserved reputation as disease vectors and crop destroyers has made them endangered in some areas. Here, I suspect artificial lighting at night and pesticides poisoning their insect diet may have adverse effects.
Oh yeah right from Ghana and in the evenings I see a lot of them on trees, or I used to but barely can right now. The population has clearly dropped and I didn't understand why
