Aesthetics: The Standards we create For ourselves.

Yesterday, I found myself rushing to the market to get some purse for my new makeup bag. While I walking through the busy paths, dodging all the dirty waters because it rained and trying my best to not step into mud, a thought crossed my mind.

Not Aesthetically pleasing , but we still go in.

Why do people who love aesthetically pleasing places still choose to go to the market?

I feel we just set unnecessary standards for ourselves.
For me, the market is far from what I would call beautiful. Especially during the rainy season. The muddy roads, crowded walkways, noise, and occasional unpleasant smells can make the experience exhausting. Most times, by the time I get home, my shoes and clothes tell the story of where I've been.

A view from the tricycle.

Yet, thousands of people willingly go there, including those who hate dirty places.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that aesthetics are not always our top priority. As humans, we often choose value over beauty.

Yes!
Because the market is the only place to find variety, better prices, fresh products and something we can't afford elsewhere.

The environment may not be comfortable, but what we gain from being there makes the inconvenience worthwhile.

It's just so interesting to me because most of us claim to love beautiful spaces. We enjoy clean malls, organized stores and appealing environments. Permit me to say it's just for the show.
But when it comes to getting what we need, we're often willing to walk through crowded and muddy places if the value is worth it.

Perhaps that's how life works too.

Sometimes the most valuable opportunity doesn't often come in beautiful surroundings and well packaged places. They sometimes comes from hidden places that we would rather avoid.

The market reminded me that while aesthetics can attract us, value is often what keeps us moving.

Do you enjoy going to the market or would you rather send someone on an errands and avoid the stress?
