Un retrato para el cumpleaños de un amigo 🎁 🖍️ (creyones óleo pastel y colores) / A portrait for a friend's birthday 🎁 🖍️ (oil pastels creyons and colors)

Saludos hivers. El domingo estuvo de cumpleaños un amigo así que en vista de que él tiene varios años fuera del país, y que obviamente no le puedo entregar un regalo en sus manos, se me ocurrió aprovechar que estoy inspirada haciendo retratos y decidí dibujar uno para él, creo que es un regalo bastante original, los invito a seguir este proceso creativo y así me dicen qué tal me salió jejeje.

Hello hivers! A friend's birthday was on Sunday, and since he's been living abroad for several years and I obviously can't give him a gift in person, I thought I'd take advantage of my current inspiration for portraits and decide to draw one for him. I think it's a pretty original gift, and I invite you to follow along with this creative process and let me know what you think!

Elegí tonos azules así que decidí usar una cartulina construcción anaranjada ya que es el color opuesto al azul, este dibujo lo hice con creyones óleo pastel y colores, también usé marcador negro y lápiz. El lápiz blanco es mi favorito para hacer el boceto sobre cartulinas de colores ya que resalta mejor y es más fácil de borrar que el lápiz. Al principio no se parecía en nada a mi amigo 😬😂🤦🏻‍♀️, pero poco a poco fuí corrigiendo los detalles.

I chose shades of blue, so I decided to use orange construction paper since it's the opposite of blue. I made this drawing with oil pastels and colored pencils, and I also used a black marker and pencil. White pencil is my favorite for sketching on colored paper because it stands out better and is easier to erase than regular pencil. At first, it didn't look anything like my friend 😬😂🤦🏻‍♀️, but little by little I corrected the details.

Dibujar a alguien que conocemos es un poquito más difícil que dibujar a un personaje famoso o a alguien desconocido ya que nuestra percepción de esa persona es más directa, y además, puede decirnos si logramos capturar el parecido o no jajaja 🤷🏻‍♀️. Lo que más me costó fue la nariz, la borré varias veces hasta que finalmente sentí que se parecía.

Drawing someone we know is a little more difficult than drawing a famous person or someone unknown, since our perception of that person is more direct, and they can also tell us if we've captured the likeness or not, hahaha 🤷🏻‍♀️. The hardest part for me was the nose, I erased it several times until I finally felt it looked right.

Como les comenté al principio, en este retrato el protagonista será el color azul, empecé marcando con lápiz blanco las partes más iluminadas, seguidamente con creyones azul celeste el resto del rostro y algunos mechones de cabello, y con azul oscuro las sombras.

As I mentioned at the beginning, in this portrait the protagonist will be the color blue. I started by marking the most illuminated parts with a white pencil, then with light blue crayons the rest of the face and some strands of hair, and with dark blue the shadows.

Mi amigo se llama Michael y es chileno, desde hace tiempo usa barba así que usé creyón negro para dibujar el cabello, la barba y las cejas. Cuando empecé a hacer retratos dibujaba puros hombres porque me inspiraba en mis artistas favoritos de rock, pero tenía tiempo sin hacer un retrato masculino.

My friend's name is Michael and he is from Chile. He has had a beard for a while, so I used black crayon to draw his hair, beard, and eyebrows. When I started doing portraits, I only drew men because I was inspired by my favorite rock artists, but it had been a while since I'd done a male portrait.

A continuación coloreé la franela con lápiz blanco y creyones gris y azul. También le puse los aros en las orejas.

Next, I colored the flannel with a white pencil and gray and blue crayons. I also added the earrings.

Por último le puse color a los ojos y usé verde claro para colorear el fondo.

Finally, I added color to the eyes and used light green to color the background.

¿Qué les parece el resultado final? Yo creo que salió bastante bien, aunque mi amigo tiene cara de malo 🤣 y a mí me salió con cara de bueno 🤭🤷🏻‍♀️. Esa misma noche le escribí a mi amigo Michael por Whatsapp y le mandé una foto del retrato junto a mis mejores deseos por su cumpleaños, no se esperaba algo así, se sorprendió y me dijo que le gustó 😊.

What do you think of the final result? I think it turned out pretty well, although my friend has a bad boy face 🤣 and I made him look like a good guy 🤭🤷🏻‍♀️. That same night I texted my friend Michael on WhatsApp and sent him a picture of the portrait along with my best wishes for his birthday. He wasn't expecting something like that, he was surprised and told me he liked it 😊.
