Why You are Your Own Worst Enemy

There is no shortage of platitudes about hard work and success. Everybody knows that success doesn’t come overnight. There are tons of cute little little sayings about how doing anything worthwhile takes time and dedication.

In my view, the problem isn’t too much that we don’t know or understand how important hard work is, or how hard it is to make it to the top. I think the problem is that although we understand it intellectually, people are always trying to sell you a shortcut.

There will be people telling you to leave school and enter the workforce. That may be valid advice, but it may not be appropriate to the particular career path you have in mind. However, the opposite may be true. Perhaps you want to drop out of school to build a start-up, but your parents want you to stay in school and become an accountant. It amounts to the same thing. People are constantly telling you to “work less” (and anyone who has ever had a real job knows you aren’t really working less), but they simply don’t have your best interests at heart. They’re just projecting their fears and insecurities on you.

So if I’m talking about other people, why is the title of my post why you are you’re own worst enemy?

Because, you are your own worst enemy. You are your own worst enemy because you listen to them.
