Announcing Crownrend | A Kingdom-Building Online Strategy Game!
Hi everyone!
After an exciting period of brainstorming, building, writing, and testing, I’m happy to announce that Crownrend is ready to open its doors!
This all began as a dream between me and my partner-in-crime, @mrtats—we wanted a game we’d actually enjoy playing ourselves, rather than making a “just another blockchain game.” So we thought hard into crafting Crownrend.
I’ll spare you the walls of text, but in a nutshell: it’s an incremental, semi-idle, online strategy game. We’ve got loads of ideas and surprises up our sleeves that I can’t fully reveal yet (where’s the fun in that?), but you can bet that this will be worth it.
In the war-torn realm of Calderan, kingdoms clash for supremacy as prophecies of a supreme ruler echo through time. Forge your destiny among the embers of conflict, raise mighty armies, and build a legacy that will echo through the ages. Will you be the one to lead the continent to a new era of an empire, or will you be the one to fall?
As you’ve probably guessed, Crownrend is all about building up your own kingdom. You’ll start with a humble village—a shabby “sorry-for-a-kingdom” and set your sights on expanding into a mighty empire.
There are plenty of stats to juggle as you grow—each choice matters and can’t be undone, but just so we're all aware, Rome wasn’t built in a day! Your strategy is everything. It’s not just about having the strongest army; their morale and tactics can tip the scales. And yes, watch your borders—friends or foes might be closer than you think.
Along the way, you’ll discover items to bolster your journey. You can barter with neighboring kingdoms or take a chance on mysterious chests offered by wandering travelers. How you play is entirely up to you.

Less lorey:
Crownrend utilizes 2 tokens, DENAR and ORI. DENAR is the currency that you earn by simply... playing the game. ORI, on the other hand, is the premium currency that can only be obtained in special ways. The easiest way to obtain it at the moment is simply getting an item and "selling it" to the merchant guild. ORI is used to upgrade your existing items.
Items have certain rarities, types and tags, you can have multiple items of the same type, but you can't equip an item that has the same tag.
The game also relies heavily on PvP. You can't just upgrade your mine and call it a day, you'll most certainly be attacked and lose your precious DENAR.
Please keep in mind that everything is a constant work in progress, we'll add more features both we know we want and things that you can suggest.

I cant say its too encouraging to see that players have to pay to get started. I feel like blockchain games shoot themselves in the foot by creating a barrier to entry so early on, when what you surely want is for everyone (the whole community) to be playing it? Thats the best marketing you can get, and amplifies the levels of fun experienced when you have a large community of excited players (not to mention more chances to make revenue off of transaction fees etc. surely?). That said Im sure you've thought about all this much more than I have and you'll get lots of people to pay the entry fee and kickstart the game. I wish you the best of luck!
Thanks for your comment, I honestly agree with you. Payment is a double edged sword, it has other meanings on a certain level when it comes to pricing as well as the existence of it in the first place. (i.e. naturally prevents registering 5000 accounts by a single person, and potentially making abuse/exploit much "harder")
ah yeh, I forgot about that issue. Yes there definitely has to be some payment, and I suppose its about finding the optimum level between encouraging more players and discouraging reward farmers and bot accounts etc.
Like I said, Im sure you've thought about it plenty and come to a sensible decision! hehe

It is definitely not a card game and we won't be relying on cards in the future either. Our take on cards are "items" in the game, but they are certainly not the main aspect which the game revolves around, and it won't be in the future.
I can understand your sentiment regarding the pricing, the overall cost is simply chosen because we believe that we also have what it takes when it comes to blockchain games.
Yeah but like... we don't know that you have what it takes, the common customer. We don't even know what the game looks like or anything. Why would we pay for that? No trailer? No video? it'd seem super scammy if it wasn't such a renowned name on this chain such as yourself.
Like I said, you can get really, really good games on steam for like 4,5 bucks. You're basically asking us to believe you're as good as, and equally valuable to, these games with millions of players, high quality animation and graphics, voice acting, full musical scores and so on.
So far all I see is a website with some text on it. It's not encouraging... I get the 'prevent spam' angle to some degree, but still.
Post an exciting trailer and I think we might have much more enthusiasm across the board
I'm a sucker for incremental idle/semi-idle games. but not got the HIVE right now to buy in. $10 is no worse than splinterlands summoner book thing so yeah seems fine.
Thanks for the comment, yeah the game cost relies heavily on past games on Hive, we really just "went" with the standard.

How are you going to avoid new players (aka new born realms) getting stomped by well established empire as soon as they join the game?

After a certain point in the game, as players develop and start becoming stronger, it will simply be useless and pointless for someone to stomp a newbie, they will obtain next to no rewards (assuming they're really far into their development tree, more or less) in comparison to fighting someone of their level.
Technically, there is nothing stopping a user with 5000 KP (kingdom power) attacking a user with 500 KP, but the roundabout losses they'll incur by not playing on their power level would be detrimental for their development in the future.
On top of that, if the weaker user calculates their strategy correctly, they could even beat the stronger user in a battle, with a bit of luck involved in the process as well.
Okay so it works sort of ladder elo (the principle) , where, if the rank 1 player beats the rank 99999 gets just 1 elo point but if he loses, he loses a lot, sounds good

We're working on a "information" wiki sort of thing. We don't have a video, no, but would love to see someone making it.

The Hive community has been plagued by a rise in spam accounts sharing stolen content. Many of these accounts appear to be linked to a single super farm that we've exposed @memesandstuff superfarm and we believe a prominent whale may be behind it

Yess, more games on HIVE. I will definitely be taking a look into this game.
I like where this is going and honestly, paying for access isn't a big deal, because I spend a lot more than $10 on games. I currently play doomsday survivor and have been playing that for over two years now, so I'm a fan of these sort of games. What I enjoy about Doomsday survivor is that the game is constantly evolving and updates regularly to ensure players are entertained. I really hope this game will also be of a similar model

Great to see another game of this genre starting on Hive. I love that they aren't time-intensive, but still have a sense of progress and PvP can be fun (or not), depending on what side of the win/loss you find yourself, usually.

Great to see a new game on hive and being able to get in early. Worth the $10 risk to me to have some fun although would be good to see a plan for the future of the game too.

Sounds interesting we'll give it a butchers, gaming is a big part of both Annabelle and my life, RTS and Turn Based figured very highly Halo Wars, Tropico, Massive Chalice, Civs and of course X Com. A reasonable price too, looking forward to seeing what you guys have done, thank you.

Just joined, we've completed the raids and stat'd up, looking forward to watching this evolve, thank you, by the way the the price is well worth it, dlc is double this price normally.
Speaking with @deathwing in the Discord just now, DENAR that is used to increase a stat, is destroyed. So most of the DENAR that is entering the system is being immediately removed through increasing stats.

Just started this now to check it out. Seems like golem in its very first days. I really hope there is lot to come soon as it will not be enough to keep up interest as it is. I'm currently struggling to see where strategy is needed at the moment.
That being said, I'm definitely looking forward to see what comes from this as a true kingdom building strategy game would very much be needed in this blockchain! Good luck forwards!
