Film Review of Abigail

Abigail (2024) is a horror comedy that starts as a kidnapping turned to supernatural terror. It was made by the same film makers who did "Ready or Not", another movie that blended horror and comedy.

The story started with a group of six criminals who were hired to kidnap a young 12 year old girl named Abigail. She is the daughter of a powerful crime lord. Their task was to hold her in a secluded Wilhelm Manor for 24 hours in exchange for a share of $50m ransom. However, things change when the criminals realizes they are trapped inside and that Abigail is no ordinary child. One by one, the kidnappers are hunted down as the truth emerges: Abigail is a centuries old vampire and the entire kidnapping was part of a deadly setup.

I like movies that change plots like "From Dusk til Dawn", a crime move turned horror or movies that reverse expectations from hunter to hunted. Where the criminals become the victims similar to "Don't Breathe". Abigail blends its tone between horror and dark comedy with exaggerated violence and character interactions. I have seen the same theme in Quentin Tarantino's "From Dusk til Dawn" where the blood and violence are exaggerated. The casts have some recognizable names like Melissa Barrera, Kevin Durand and Gian Carlo Esposito that lend their talent to the movie. The child actor who played the vampire, Alisha Weir (Matilda, the Musical) performed her part well. She is both scary and charismatic making her character memorable. The film’s mix of gore and humor is also entertaining for fans of genre mashups. It delivered plenty of shocking and absurd moments.

Abigail is an entertaining horror comedy that succeeds in its concept of blending genres and turning hunters into hunted. It offers a fun, bloody film with a standout villain and a clever plot. If you enjoy horror films with comedy, gore and a bit of absurdity, Abigail is worth watching.

I’ve seen this movie; in my opinion, it’s quite a good horror film.
