The Painting in the Exam Room
Went to the neurologist appointment yesterday. No big deal. A followup. No changes. Nothing bad and nothing good to report really. Did complain about how my shoulders have been bothering me and got an anti-inflammatory shot. It helped. I was finally able to sleep on my sides last night without pain and not hurt this morning after waking.
Small victories.

While in the exam room, I noticed the painting above. I enjoy paintings like this. I believe it's because I can imagine myself in the settings. Create my own world around it in my head. Although this one wasn't my usual flavor. I usually like landscapes of the countryside or with more nature. But it caught my attention anyway.
I've become more aware of artwork these last few months. I know very little about art. I took a course about art history in my undergrad work. I've watched some documentaries. But that's about it. Recently though I've enjoyed virtual art exhibit tours with @avdesing and @erikah from their blog posts. Learning a little more about artists like Oscar Domínguez, Picasso, and others. Experiencing their works through their eyes.
I even get to experience works of unknown artists, which I enjoy the most. You never know what you're going to see on some of those posts. I can sometimes find myself lingering on a photo of a piece for several minutes. Even coming back to it later.
Never used to appreciate art like this when I was younger. Only just really started to. Maybe it's because I'm slowing down and appreciating more things in life now. I think it is.
When you're young and moving fast, you blow past stuff like this. A painting on a wall is just decoration. Background noise. You're too busy getting to the next thing to stop and look.
Now I stop. I look. I wonder what the artist was thinking. I imagine myself in the scene. I let it sit with me for a while.
That's new for me. And I like it.

Thanks for reading,
Joe

Better late than never. You'll grow to enjoy it, trust me :)
Thank you.
What lovely things you say about art. I’m so glad you enjoy my posts; I put a lot of love into them and discover so much along the way. I also learn about styles I wasn’t familiar with, and that way we all learn and see things together, that’s the most beautiful thing of all: sharing.
I really love that painting!!!
I can tell you put a lot of love into those posts. Which is why I enjoy them so.
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
I think it’s going to be a weekend of museum visits, at least on Sunday!!! Thanks! Same to you – have a great weekend!
I'm definitely the sort to feel more comfortable in the middle of a Bob Ross painting! :) I'm glad your shoulders are getting taken care of. Mine have been kind of messed up lately too. I keep hoping it's not something with my rotator cuff or something like that.
Happy trees :-)
Yeeah, the shot is a temp fix. Mine are probably torn they think. Wont know until I can get into the VA and get scheduled for a scan or something.
Best of luck with that!
It reminds of a Paris street and sitting having a coffee a beer and a croissant and watching the world go by! Glad the pain has gone
It does remind me of a European scene. The pain is gone for now, but it is just a temp fix.
It was about the time that I first entered my 40's that I started to appreciate some of the priceless classic works and decided to reprint them in my businesses in Thailand and then put a bit of information in the bottom left corner for other people to read. It was kind of fun. I used to devote a lot of time to finding out the exact sizes of the originals and could have them inkjet printed on canvas for very little money. That was a fun time and basically the only time that I "collected" anything since living in Asia.
Then I started visiting museums when I would visit 1st world countries.
There's a lot of joy to be found in art. I think most people don't start to appreciate it until they are a bit older though.
Seems you started appreciating it earlier than me. Wish we didn't have to travel into the traffic of the big city to go to a museum here.
A person "learns and grows" while he is alive. For some things, we may need time, perhaps.
Yeah. I’ve been known to be slow sometimes 😄
