The Children of the Wood 🌼 | Digital Art
I’m back with ASCII Art. Although not everything in this piece was made in that style.
There’s something strange about ASCII that I’ve always liked. It can make an image feel like it isn’t entirely an image. Up close, some parts simply look like text, but when you look at them from a little farther away, all those symbols slowly come together and become something else.
This time, I wanted to make something a little darker. And of course, red and black are once again my main choices when it comes to the color palette. I guess I have a hard time letting those two colors go. Hehe.
I started with something quite simple, a daisy.

Daisies usually have a very light and innocent feeling to them. White, clean, a little ordinary. But I wanted to make it feel different. So I changed it to red, then I replaced the center of the flower with something that probably doesn't belong there, a bloodshot, bleeding eye.
I imagined her as some kind of forest fairy, but not the kind of fairy we usually picture. Not cute, not gentle, not overly beautiful, and definitely not the kind of creature I would expect to help someone find their way out of the forest.
I imagined something much older. Something that has become part of the place itself. The body may look like a fairy, but I’m not even sure she should really be called one. And then there are the eyes underneath her, at first, I simply wanted to add something to the lower part of the composition so it wouldn't feel too empty. But the longer I looked at them, the more unsettling that pile of eyes became.
I've included all the images I used in creating this artwork below.
